Position Summary
We are seeking an Expert Level 5 Technical Designer to support aerospace production engineering in real-time across key Washington sites. In this role, you will apply advanced drafting principles and solid modeling expertise to resolve fabrication issues, translate conceptual ideas into detailed physical geometry, and support materials and process specifications across airplane programs.
Key Responsibilities
- Engineering & Model Definition: Translate conceptual engineering feedback into precise 3D part geometry and assembly definitions; execute model definition changes within defined engineering criteria.
- Production Support: Apply fundamental drafting and design principles to troubleshoot and resolve product and process issues real-time within the manufacturing flow.
- Materials & Systems Integration: Review materials, components, and process specifications (including electrical, electronic, and electromechanical components) to ensure design control, quality, and compliance.
- Failure Analysis & Troubleshooting: Identify impacts of non-conformances, conduct laboratory/failure analysis, and develop effective root-cause corrective and preventative actions.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner with Design, Stress, Quality, Manufacturing, and Supplier teams throughout the product lifecycle to evaluate technologies and continuous improvement initiatives.
Basic Qualifications
- Education & Experience: Associate Degree with 9+ years of aerospace design experience (or an equivalent combination of education and experience).
- CAD/Solid Modeling: Hands-on experience with CATIA (or equivalent 3D solid modeling software) and detail/assembly parts.
- Visualization Tools: Proficient with Integrated Visualization Tools (IVT).
- Manufacturing Knowledge: Fundamental understanding of metallic part machining and complex product structures (details, parts, assemblies, installations).
