Lead, Advanced Practice - Surgical/Procedural

Children's Healthcare of Atlanta is hiring for the Lead, Advanced Practice - Surgical/Procedural role. This position requires a variable schedule that includes nights, weekends, and a minimum of 0.8 FTE in direct patient care. The successful candidate will manage clinical, administrative, and professional duties for the Advanced Practice Providers (APP) group, facilitate day‑to‑day operations, and promote best practices across the department.

Job Description

At Children's Healthcare of Atlanta, our pediatric surgery experts perform safe surgical procedures on babies, kids, and teens. The Advanced Practice Provider (APP) Lead oversees the APP team’s operations, fiscal and human resource processes, and ensures current best practices are utilized. Responsibilities include orientation, competency evaluation, professional development, and growth of APPs.

Experience

• 3 years’ experience as a Pediatric Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant

Preferred Qualifications

• Previous supervisory or healthcare leadership experience
• Doctorate degree in Nursing Practice or Medical Science

Education

• Master’s degree in nursing

Certification Summary

• Licensure as a Registered Nurse in Georgia or Multi‑State through the Enhanced Nurse Licensure Compact and APRN licensure in Georgia, or licensure as a Physician Assistant in Georgia.
• Certification as an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse by ANCC, AANP, PNCB, or NCCPA. (Family Nurse Practitioner may be acceptable with CNO approval)
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association upon hire.
• Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) within 60 days of hire for Nurse Practitioners and Physician Assistants working in Emergency Medicine, Urgent Care, Anesthesia, Hematology/Oncology, and Critical Care; or NRP certification for Neonatology.

Job Responsibilities

Clinical

• Provide comprehensive patient care management within a collaborative practice model for children of all ages, under the supervision of the supervising/collaborating physician and within scope of practice outlined by Georgia statutes.
• Perform comprehensive histories and physical examinations, identify normal and abnormal findings, order and interpret laboratory and diagnostic tests, develop treatment plans, serve as an educational resource, and facilitate patient referrals as needed.
• Collaborate and/or consult with physicians and other health care providers.

Strategy & Operations

• Lead the team to achieve departmental goals in collaboration with medical and departmental/practice leaders.
• Serve as department representative for APPs in physician relations, administrative relations, and clinical operations.
• Facilitate the standardization/revision of practice protocols, policies, and processes related to the APP role.
• Actively participate in the Advanced Practice Provider Shared Governance Committees.
• Manage organizational change and foster acceptance, adoption, and action toward change.

Staff Management

• Provide feedback to managers on staff performance, educational needs, and performance improvement plans.
• Partner with system and departmental leaders to manage day‑to‑day operations of APP staffing and scheduling.
• Ensure APPs are compliant with credentialing and licensure.
• Participate in recruitment and hiring of APPs.
• Facilitate graduate student placement within the practice.

Professional Development

• Plan, implement, and evaluate orientation and onboarding for new APPs.
• Coordinate professional development activities and nurture professional growth.
• Participate in professional organizations and maintain professional competence and credentials.

Quality and Evidence-Based Practice Behaviors

• Support development of quality measures and controls for the department/practice.
• Ensure compliance with National Patient Safety Goals and Joint Commission requirements.
• Oversee follow‑up to ONS reports related to APPs.
