Job description

Building the Future of Open Finance

Payward - the parent company behind Kraken, NinjaTrader, Breakout, xStocks, Payward Services and CF Benchmarks - has spent the last 15 years building one of the most modern and globally accessible financial infrastructure platforms in the industry, built to advance an open, global financial system.

Before you apply, we encourage you to explore our culture page to understand what drives us and how we work.

The team

Founded in 2011, Kraken is one of the world's longest-standing crypto platforms, trusted by over 10 million individuals and institutions across the globe. It offers spot trading, margin, futures, staking, and OTC services, with products built for both individual investors and institutional clients.

This role is an excellent opportunity for individuals who excel in dynamic environments, possess a strong background in financial intelligence or high-risk monitoring, and are skilled in managing critical compliance initiatives. If you are ready to take on this challenging and impactful role, we look forward to your application.

The opportunity
  • Review and evaluate incoming subpoenas, court orders, and other global legal document requests to verify their legitimacy and authority.
  • Determine the scope of records requested and coordinate directly with serving agencies to clarify scope, format, and required deadlines.
  • Research Kraken's internal systems thoroughly to identify and compile the records responsive to each request, in line with global laws and regulations.
  • Log and maintain accurate, detailed records of every request and communication in Kraken's law enforcement request management platform (Kodex), from intake through closure.
  • Follow up as needed with serving agencies and internal departments to keep requests moving and deadlines on track.
  • Support departmental projects related to legal request processing, including maintaining procedures and preparing management information reporting as assigned.
  • Understand and adhere to Kraken's risk and regulatory standards, policies, and controls; identify and escalation risk where appropriate.
  • Partner with Compliance, Legal, Corporate Security, and other Kraken teams to answer questions and resolve issues tied to subpoenas and other record requests.
  • Escalate complex or sensitive issues to management promptly, maintaining confidentiality throughout.
  • Contribute feedback to ongoing improvements in the internal policies and processes that govern how legal document requests are handled.
What you bring
  • 2+ years of experience at a crypto exchange, financial services company, law enforcement/regulatory liaison role, or as a paralegal, preferred.
  • Familiarity with U.S. and/or European court systems is a plus
  • High level of comfort with technology and computer systems, including intermediate proficiency with MacOS, Microsoft and Google applications.
  • Excellent organizational and time-management skills with the ability to plan, prioritize, and track a high volume of concurrent requests without letting details slip.
  • Detail oriented and able to communicate with tact and professionalism.
  • Comfortable working under tight, often shifting deadlines across multiple concurrent requests.
  • Takes ownership of their work product and consistently delivers results.
  • Adaptable and comfortable navigating not just a shifting regulatory environment, but also evolving internal processes, team growth and changes, and new systems and tooling.
  • Able to handle sensitive and confidential information with sound judgment and maturity.
  • Proven ability to work across multiple internal systems concurrently to gather and analyze data.

Unless a specific application deadline is stated in the job posting, applications are accepted on an ongoing basis.

Please note, applicants are permitted to redact or remove information on their resume that identifies age, date of birth, or dates of attendance at or graduation from an educational institution.
