High school diploma or GED required; associate or bachelor’s degree in criminal justice, social work, psychology, education, or related field preferred.
Retired or current law enforcement professionals in good standing.
Experience working with youth, families, or community-based programs. Strong interpersonal, communication, and conflict resolution skills. Ability to build rapport with diverse youth populations. Knowledge of juvenile justice systems and community resources.
Must maintain an active law enforcement certification and remain in good standing with the applicable certifying authority throughout employment.
The Law Enforcement Mentor is responsible for mentoring, supporting, and guiding at-risk youth through prevention, intervention, and community engagement services. Drawing on prior law enforcement experience, this role focuses on building positive relationships with youth and families while helping prevent delinquency, truancy, substance use, violence, and other high-risk behaviors. The specialist works collaboratively with schools, families, community organizations, and service providers to connect youth with appropriate resources and opportunities for success. This position emphasizes relationship-building, trauma-informed care, de-escalation, and restorative approaches rather than enforcement.
