Job summary

Service Employees International Union (SEIU) seeks Summer 2027 law clerks for its Washington, DC office. The positions are full-time and involve in-person work within the Legal Department.

Candidates should be current law students with strong writing and researching abilities; completion of a basic labor law course is preferred but not required. Externs who receive academic credit can also be compensated if allowed by their law school.

Service Employees International Union (SEIU) has openings for full-time law clerks for Summer 2027.

Attorneys in SEIU’s Legal Department engage in innovative lawyering to further the organization's interests in organizing non-union workers, improving working conditions for all workers, engaging in political action, and achieving social justice. This includes legal work on a wide range of matters including regulatory, legislative, and policy issues, advising on union governance matters, organizing campaigns, and other legal work in furtherance of working people, and their communities.

Law clerks and externs in the SEIU Legal Department conduct legal research and draft legal memoranda, work with attorneys on pending litigation, attend hearings and conferences, and meet with union leaders.

Law clerks and externs are assigned to work in-person in the Legal Department in Washington, DC.

Law clerks are paid $25/hour. Externs who receive academic credit can also receive compensation if allowed by their law school.

We are interested in candidates with a demonstrated commitment to workers’ rights and social change. The successful applicant will have a strong academic background with excellent writing and researching skills. Completion of a basic labor law course is preferred but not required. Please note clerk positions are open only to current law students.
