Job summary

PruittHealth is seeking a dedicated laundry attendant to manage washing, drying, and organizing patient laundry within our facilities. You will fold, sort, and deliver items, ensuring they are clean, intact, and ready for use by patients and residents.

Previous healthcare laundering experience is preferred. On-the-job training is provided to help you maintain high hygiene standards and comply with safety policies. This position is on-site with responsibilities across multiple laundry areas.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

• Fold and sort laundry (blankets, sheets, towels, clothing)
• Hang clothes on racks by name and number
• Deliver patient/resident laundry to designated areas
• Ensure clothes are clean, undamaged, and properly stored
• Understand detergent, soap, and bleach usage
• Follow MSDS precautions for all chemicals
• Wash and dry clothes and linens
• Keep laundry areas clean and organized; perform cleaning schedules
• Report repairs to maintenance as needed
• Operate washers/dryers and related equipment safely
• Handle soiled laundry items properly and hygienically
• Disinfect linen carts and maintain clean environment

Job description

JOB PURPOSE:

Tends laundering machines to clean sheets, blankets, pillow coverings, and personal articles of patients. Loads articles in washer and adds specified amount of detergent or other cleaning agents. Lifts clean, wet articles from washer and places them successively into wringer and dryer for measured time cycles. Sorts dry articles according to identification numbers or type. Folds and places items in appropriate storage bin.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

• 1. Folds and sorts laundry (blankets, sheets, towels etc.) and personal clothing items
• 2. Hangs clothes on racks according to name and numbers.
• 3. Delivers patient/resident’s laundry to designated areas
• 4. Ensures that patients/residents clothes are ready to wear, not in disrepair and put in proper place
• 5. Understands functions of various soaps and bleaches
• 6. Follows precautions as stated on MSDS for all chemicals used
• 7. Washes and dries clothes and linens
• 8. Keeps equipment clean and follows cleaning schedules
• 9. Maintains a clean and organized area; sweeps and mops laundry area
• 10. Reports any needed repairs to maintenance department
• 11. Operates large filters according to established schedules
• 12. Ensures proper handling of soiled laundry items
• 13. Cleans and disinfects linen carts as required per policy and procedure
• 14. Empties washers and dryers as requested/necessary
• 15. Operates water, gas, and electric cutoff switches and valves
• 16. Understands the proper process for stain removal

MINIMUM EDUCATION REQUIRED:

High School Degree preferred.

MINIMUM EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:

On-the-job training provided
