Job summary

The City of Downey is seeking a sworn Police Officer with CA POST certification and full-time status. You will patrol, investigate, and enforce laws, while partnering with residents to maintain public safety.

Requirements include a high school diploma and CA POST Academy; 21+ years old; and a valid CA driver’s license. Lateral hires receive incentive pay, seniority benefits, and comprehensive city benefits.

Qualifications

• High school graduate or equivalent AND completion of a California (CA) POST Academy.
• Current employment as a full-time, paid peace officer in a CA POST approved agency.
• Age 21 years or older at time of appointment.
• Valid California Driver's License with acceptable driving record.

Responsibilities

• Patrols assigned area in patrol car to preserve law and order and enforce traffic regulations.
• Investigates crimes against persons and property; interviews victims and witnesses.
• Processes warrants and apprehends or assists in the apprehension of wanted persons.
• Maintains knowledge of laws, procedures, and investigative techniques.
• Learn and apply department policies; communicate effectively in writing and orally.
