The Forest Park Fire Department is seeking qualified candidates for lateral entry positions as firefighter paramedics. Job Responsibilities:
- Perform fire suppression and fire prevention duties.
- Assess, treat, and transport acutely ill or injured citizens.
- Conduct rescue operations and operate emergency fire apparatus and medical equipment.
- Perform fire inspections and participate in prevention programs.
- Engage in Fire/EMS training, station, and equipment maintenance.
- Assist in public education programs related to fire and EMS.
- Participate in company-level fire safety inspections.
- Manage projects or areas of responsibility as assigned.
- Complete necessary records and reports.
- Perform equipment inspections and preventive maintenance.
- Assist with minor repairs to equipment, vehicles, and facilities.
Qualifications:
- High School diploma or GED.
- Valid driver’s license and ability to be insured by the city’s insurance if driving is required.
- Professional Firefighter Certification.
- Paramedic Certification at the time of appointment.
- Willingness to pursue ongoing education in firefighting, emergency medicine, and leadership.
- Ability to read and interpret safety rules, manuals, and technical instructions.
- Effective communication skills, including speaking before groups and writing reports.
- Mathematical proficiency, including understanding of probability, statistics, and basic geometry.
- Strong problem-solving skills, including data collection, analysis, and decision-making.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team, demonstrating emotional stability and courage under stress.
- Good moral character and ability to handle sensitive information appropriately.
- Must be free of communicable diseases during contagious stages.
- Knowledge of Forest Park’s geography, water supply, and fire suppression systems.
Additional Requirements:
