Job summary

The City of Lubbock is accepting applications for Probationary Lateral Firefighter positions from September 9, 2026, through October 2, 2026. A government-issued photo ID is required for admittance. The starting salary is $71,307.64 annually, with a bi-weekly rate of $2,742.60 and an approximate hourly

Qualifications

• Must be at least 18 years old and under 36 on exam date.
• Must have at least 24 months of verified full-time firefighter service with qualifying agencies.
• No break in service exceeding 60 days between last qualifying employer and application submission.
• Meet all eligibility and appointment requirements.
• Exceptions to the 24-month requirement may be approved case-by-case by the Fire Chief and union.

Responsibilities

• Attend the Probationary Lateral Entrance Exam on Oct 8, 2026 at the Lubbock Memorial Civic Center.
• Take the physical agility test immediately after the written exam at Fire Station No. 19.
• Submit proof of Texas or reciprocal certifications by the deadline and follow the Civil Service process for ranking and appointment.
