  • Evaluate LATAM and Venezuela-related exposure, including sanctions, PEPs, corruption, complex ownership structures, geographic risk, and cross-border activity.
  • Review and corroborate source of funds and source of wealth using financial records, corporate documents, public information, adverse media, and other investigative sources.
  • Analyze domestic and international payment activity, including wires and ACH, for indicators of money laundering, sanctions evasion, or other potentially suspicious behavior.
  • Conduct sanctions screening and resolve alerts involving customers, beneficial owners, counterparties, financial institutions, jurisdictions, vessels, and related parties.
  • Apply OFAC requirements to customer and transaction decisions, including blocked-party considerations, restricted jurisdictions, sectoral restrictions, the 50 Percent Rule, and general or specific licenses.
  • Determine when activity may require restrictions, blocking/rejection, escalation, regulatory reporting, or additional investigation.
  • Conduct CDD/KYC/KYB and EDD across onboarding, periodic reviews, event-driven reviews, and ongoing monitoring.
  • Investigate unusual activity and prepare clear, defensible internal case narratives and escalations.
  • Help enhance the organization's LATAM financial crime framework, including risk assessments, eligibility standards, EDD requirements, sanctions controls, escalation procedures, training, and reporting.
  • Monitor regulatory and sanctions developments and translate changes into actionable policies, controls, workflows, and system requirements.
  • Partner with compliance, operations, product, technology, and other stakeholders to implement program improvements.
  • Maintain comprehensive case documentation, supporting evidence, and decision-making records suitable for audit and regulatory review.
Candidate Profile

  • Practical knowledge of LATAM sanctions risk, with direct Venezuela-related experience strongly preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of BSA/AML, sanctions, KYC/KYB, CDD/EDD, beneficial ownership, transaction monitoring, adverse media, and suspicious/unusual activity escalation processes.
  • Hands-on experience interpreting and applying OFAC requirements, including sanctions screening, alert disposition, blocked property, restricted jurisdictions, licensing, the 50 Percent Rule, block/reject decisions, reporting, recordkeeping, and potential sanctions-evasion matters.
  • Experience assessing complex international ownership structures, cross-border transactions, and source of funds/wealth.
  • Familiarity with Venezuela-related risk factors such as state-owned enterprises, PEP exposure, currency controls, corruption, and trade-based money laundering.
  • Strong investigative judgment with the ability to independently identify information gaps, reach defensible conclusions, and elevate complex matters.
  • Experience with sanctions screening, transaction monitoring, case management, and investigative research platforms.
  • Strong written communication, analytical, organizational, and stakeholder-management skills.
  • Experience leading or coordinating cross-functional compliance initiatives is preferred.
