Job summary

AVNA in Connecticut is seeking a Laser Process Engineer – NPI to lead multiple aspects of New Product Introduction related to Laser Technologies, including Laser Cutting, Welding, and Marking. You will work with cross-functional project teams ensuring successful launches of new products.

Ideal candidates will have a minimum of 5 years of experience in manufacturing with a strong understanding of Laser Processing. This role demands excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to manage multiple projects while ensuring compliance with established requirements.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in Manufacturing.
  • Experience in Laser Processing including Laser Cutting, Welding, and Marking.
  • Experience with Medical Device Validation/Qualification Procedures.

Responsibilities

  • Support all aspects of New Product Introduction related to Laser technologies.
  • Ensure laser processes meet established requirements.
  • Collaborate with R&D to transfer projects to NPI.

Job description

As a Laser Process Engineer – NPI, you will be responsible for leading multiple facets of New Product Introduction by working independently as well as with cross-functional project teams to successfully execute and launch new programs related to Laser Technologies, including Laser Cutting, Laser Welding, and Laser Marking.

Responsibilities
  • Drive and/or support all aspects of New Product Introduction related to Laser processes, equipment, and products.
  • Drive and/or support new program launches and the successful transition to the Production/Sustaining teams.
  • Ensure all Laser processes for new programs meet the established requirements (cycle times, efficiencies, quality, etc.) prior to the transfer from NPI to Production.
  • Work closely with the R&D Laser Personnel to ensure a successful transfer and hand‑off of R&D projects to the NPI and Project Management teams.
  • Develop and execute part, process, and equipment qualifications for IQ/OQ/PQ.
  • Develop process development documents, protocols, reports, work process instructions, visual standards, training documents, setup sheets, parameter sheets, etc.
  • Collaborate and support other project team members and Quality Engineers to review and create Process Routings, Control Plans, PFMEA’s, Material Data Sheets, etc.
  • Troubleshoot and perform root cause analysis to resolve nonconformances in the process.
  • Set up equipment, create part programs, and develop efficient and robust laser‑based processes.
  • Effectively communicate with internal team members, project management, or external customers, on different requests related to NPI for Laser Technologies.
  • Support and/or drive meetings and conference calls, both with internal and external customers.
  • Support and/or drive Design for Manufacturability (DFM) and Design for Assembly (DFA) discussions with internal and external customers.
  • Develop the scope and drive or support the implementation and qualification of new laser‑based equipment for new programs.
  • Willing to travel to customers, events, industry tradeshows, AVNA’s Costa Rica facility, etc., as needed.
Skills
  • Excellent Technical Writing and Presentation skills
  • Proficient with Blueprint reading and understanding of GD&T
  • Proficient with conducting DOEs (Design of Experiments)
  • Able to troubleshoot machines and processes
  • Experience with the following software is preferred: SolidWorks, AutoCAD (DraftSight), Cagila (2D & 3D), Laser Welding and Laser Marking software.
  • Understanding of G&M Code
  • Understanding of how lasers and optics work, both from a theoretical and practical perspective
  • Understanding of statistical software and interpretation of statistical charts
  • Understanding of Medical Device Validation/Qualification Procedures:
  • PPAP/IQ/OQ/PQ
  • PFMEA, GR&R, MSA, Test Method Validations
  • Control Plans, Process Routings
Requirements
  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in Manufacturing.
  • Experience and knowledge of Laser Processing including Laser Cutting, Welding, and Marking is highly preferred.
  • Experience in Medical Component and Sub‑Assembly Manufacturing and Medical PPAP procedures is highly preferred.
  • Experience with developing robust and efficient processes and effectively launching new programs to high volume production.
  • Experience in working with cross‑functional project teams and external customers.
  • Experience with custom machine solutions and automation is preferred.
