Job summary

FormFactor, Inc. in Livermore, CA seeks a seasoned Laser Drilling Process Engineer to develop, optimize, and sustain precision drilling for ceramic materials.

You will create automated recipes, optimize parameters, and implement batch processes to maximize equipment utilization and reduce material waste. The role requires extensive experience in laser systems, SPC-driven quality control, and cross-functional collaboration to improve yield and throughput in semiconductor manufacturing

Qualifications

  • Minimum 8 years related experience with a bachelor’s degree; or 6 years with a master’s; or a PhD with 3 years experience.

Responsibilities

  • Develop, optimize, and sustain precision laser drilling processes for ceramic materials with micron-level feature sizes and tight dimensional specifications.
  • Create, optimize, and automate laser drilling recipes to improve process consistency, setup time, and manufacturing efficiency.
  • Develop and implement batch drilling processes to maximize equipment utilization and reduce raw material consumption.
  • Support process development for both nanosecond and femtosecond laser systems.
  • Evaluate and optimize laser parameters to achieve required quality and throughput.
  • Develop, optimize, and sustain semiconductor manufacturing processes to improve yield, quality, productivity, and cycle time.
  • Support process qualification, validation, and implementation for new and existing products.
  • Establish and maintain robust process controls using SPC, process capability analysis, and data-driven decision making.
  • Analyze manufacturing and metrology data to identify process improvements and implement corrective/preventive actions.
  • Create and maintain engineering documentation including work instructions, process specs, FMEAs, control plans, and procedures.
  • Support ECO/ECCB changes and New Product Introduction (NPI) activities.
  • Train manufacturing technicians and operators on laser drilling equipment and best practices.
  • Collaborate with Manufacturing, Product Engineering, Quality, and Equipment Engineering to resolve issues and drive improvements.
  • Provide hands-on support during equipment qualification, process validation, production ramp, and troubleshooting.
  • Lead continuous improvement projects focused on automation, yield, cycle time, and cost reduction.

Job Description
Key Responsibilities
  • Develop, optimize, and sustain precision laser drilling processes for ceramic materials with micron-level feature sizes and tight dimensional specifications.
  • Create, optimize, and automate laser drilling recipes to improve process consistency, setup time, and manufacturing efficiency.
  • Develop and implement batch drilling processes to maximize equipment utilization and reduce raw material consumption.
  • Support process development for both nanosecond and femtosecond laser systems.
  • Evaluate and optimize laser parameters, including power, pulse frequency, pulse duration, focus, scanning strategy, and drilling algorithms to achieve required quality and throughput.
  • Develop, optimize, and sustain semiconductor manufacturing processes to improve yield, quality, productivity, and cycle time.
  • Support process qualification, validation, and implementation for new and existing products.
  • Establish and maintain robust process controls using Statistical Process Control (SPC), process capability analysis, and data-driven decision making.
  • Analyze manufacturing and metrology data to identify process improvements and implement effective corrective and preventive actions.
  • Create and maintain engineering documentation, including work instructions, process specifications, FMEAs, control plans, and manufacturing procedures.
  • Support engineering change implementation (ECO/ECCB) and New Product Introduction (NPI) activities.
  • Train manufacturing technicians and operators on laser drilling equipment, manufacturing processes, and best practices.
  • Collaborate with Manufacturing, Product Engineering, Quality, and Equipment Engineering to resolve technical issues and drive continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Provide hands‑on support during equipment qualification, process validation, production ramp, and troubleshooting.
  • Lead continuous improvement projects focused on automation, yield improvement, cycle time reduction, and manufacturing cost reduction.

Pay Range

Required Pay Range: $136,200.00 - $178,815.00 Pay Range Explained: This role in Livermore, California pays between $136,200.00 and $178,815.00 per year, depending on your experience, skills, and background. Pay may vary in other locations. We offer a full benefits package, including medical, dental, vision, life insurance, disability coverage, a 401(k) with company match, employee stock purchase plan (ESPP), and paid time off. You’ll also be eligible for quarterly profit-sharing bonuses and flexible spending or savings accounts.
