Job Description

Position: LAP Math Paraprofessional Department: Lake Roosevelt Schools Union Exempt: No Reports To: Executive Director / Teacher / Principal Work Days: 151 days per year; 4 days per week except non-school days; 7.5-7.75 hours per day depending on specific need; professional development days as assigned.

POSITION SUMMARY

The LAP Math Paraprofessional provides targeted mathematics support to students receiving Learning Assistance Program (LAP) services. This position works under the direction of the Executive Director, Teacher, and/or Principal to provide individual and small-group math intervention aligned with student needs and instructional goals.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Provides individual and small-group math instruction and intervention under the direction of certificated staff.
  • Reinforces grade-level mathematics skills, concepts, and strategies.
  • Assists students in developing foundational math skills, problem-solving strategies, and mathematical reasoning.
  • Prepares instructional materials and resources for math intervention.
  • Supports implementation of district-approved math curriculum, intervention programs, and instructional strategies.
  • Assists with administering and/or supporting math assessments and progress-monitoring activities as directed.
  • Maintains student records, intervention documentation, and other required LAP information.
  • Communicates student progress, concerns, and instructional needs to the LAP Teacher and appropriate staff.
  • Adapts instructional activities and materials to meet individual student needs under the direction of certificated staff.
  • Encourages positive student engagement, confidence, and perseverance in mathematics.
  • Implements appropriate student behavior-management strategies.
  • Supervises students during recess, lunch, passing time, or other assigned periods.
  • Assists with field trips and other student activities when required.
  • Supports the safety and physical needs of students.
  • Maintains positive and professional relationships with students, staff, families, and the public.
  • Works collaboratively with teachers, administrators, and other staff.
  • Adheres to the assigned daily schedule and works independently when appropriate.
  • Complies with Grand Coulee Dam School District policies, procedures, and expectations.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by the supervisor.
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to read and comprehend instructions, correspondence, instructional materials, and student information. Ability to communicate effectively in writing and verbally with students and staff and to present information in individual and small-group settings.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Ability to demonstrate and support mathematics skills appropriate to the students served, including:

  • Addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division.
  • Whole numbers, fractions, and decimals.
  • Ratios, rates, percentages, and proportional reasoning.
  • Measurement and basic geometry.
  • Interpretation of graphs, tables, and mathematical data.
  • Mathematical problem solving and reasoning.

Ability to explain mathematical concepts and processes in a manner that supports student understanding is required.

REASONING ABILITY

Ability to follow written and verbal directions, solve practical problems, adjust to individual student needs, and apply instructional strategies as directed by certificated staff.

OTHER DEMANDS

Ability to work effectively with students, staff, families, and the public; manage multiple responsibilities; maintain confidentiality; develop positive relationships; manage time effectively; and perform duties in accordance with district policies and procedures.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

The employee must demonstrate organization, concentration, adaptability, and the ability to work independently and collaboratively with frequent interruptions. The position requires regular interaction with students in individual, small-group, and classroom settings.

The noise level in the work environment is generally moderate.

EDUCATION
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Must meet Washington State paraeducator minimum employment requirements, including an associate degree or higher, qualifying college credits, or successful completion of an approved paraeducator assessment, as applicable.
MANDATORY CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT
  • Successful clearance of required FBI and Washington State Patrol fingerprint background checks.
  • Successful Washington State sexual misconduct clearance.
  • Completion of Federal Form I-9, Employment Eligibility Verification.
  • Completion of required district and state training, including applicable paraeducator professional development requirements.

Position Type: Full-Time

Salary: $22.38 to $24.69 Per Hour
