Job summary

McLane Company, Inc. is seeking a Software Engineer II to design, build, test, and maintain complex software systems for warehouse, distribution, purchasing, inventory, sales order, and EDI processes.

The role offers hybrid work with office presence at least three days a week and within a 50-minute radius of Temple, TX. You will lead technical efforts, develop documentation and specifications, and collaborate with stakeholders to drive improvements and reliable production systems.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • 5+ years of software development experience in an IBM i (AS400/iSeries) environment.
  • Strong RPG development experience.
  • Experience creating business requirements, technical specifications, test scripts, and supporting user testing.
  • Experience supporting and resolving production application issues.
  • Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Responsibilities

  • Design, estimate, develop, document, test, and implement high-quality software solutions that meet business requirements, timelines, and budget objectives.
  • Analyze business needs and translate requirements into functional and technical specifications.
  • Develop and maintain applications supporting warehouse, distribution, purchasing, inventory, sales order, and EDI business processes.
  • Create documentation including business requirements, technical designs, test plans, and implementation procedures.
  • Partner with business stakeholders to identify process improvements and recommend technology solutions.
  • Troubleshoot, diagnose, and resolve application issues and user support requests in a timely manner.
  • Participate in user acceptance testing and production implementation activities.
  • Support application deployments, upgrades, and maintenance efforts.
  • Monitor and maintain system performance, reliability, and data integrity.
  • Participate in a rotating 24/7 on-call support schedule and provide after-hours support when required.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

What you'll do as a Software Engineer II:

This includes understanding work instructions, safety protocols, and communications essential to the role. The requirement is directly related to the nature of the job and ensures compliance with workplace safety and operational standards.
