Job description

IXL Learning, developer of personalized learning products used by millions of people globally, is seeking an assessment specialist to join our team as a Language Arts Curriculum Designer and help shape our growing suite of K‑12 assessments.

This is a full‑time remote position for candidates in the United States.

What You’ll Be Doing
  • Write and review clear, engaging assessment items to address specified educational objectives in grades K‑5.
  • Review and edit assessment items and collaborate with our team of writers, editors, and illustrators to ensure content is clear, accurate, and age‑appropriate.
  • Write achievement level descriptors and other assessment documentation.
  • Collaborate with curriculum designers, psychometricians, product managers, and company leaders to determine assessment scope and approach.
  • Develop and manage project plans to create and deliver high‑quality assessment items.
  • Research and analyze content requirements, including state educational standards.
  • Assist with other ELA curriculum design projects as assigned, such as creating and reviewing standards alignments and writing and reviewing ELA content for IXL’s learning activities.
What We’re Looking For
  • Bachelor’s, Master’s, or PhD in Education, English, Linguistics, or a related field with an explicit focus on literacy.
  • 2+ years’ experience writing foundational reading items for statewide or national assessments.
  • Experience teaching beginning or struggling readers how to read using a structured literacy approach.
  • Outstanding written and spoken communication skills, including the ability to communicate clearly and concisely with a wide range of age groups.
  • Ability to think strategically and creatively solve problems.
  • Can‑do attitude with an openness to others’ ideas and a strong attention to detail.
  • Ability to quickly learn new guidelines and software; familiarity with HTML, Jira, or version control software is a plus.
  • Experience in curriculum development and instructional design is a plus.
