Focal Pointe's 2027 Summer Landscape Internship is based in Kansas City, KS. This paid, full-time summer program lets you rotate through estate gardening, commercial landscape maintenance, irrigation, plant health, design, and business operations while mentoring with experienced professionals.

You'll gain hands-on experience, see how projects move from concept to installation, and explore where your degree could take you in the landscape industry.

Responsibilities

• Exposure to multiple career paths within the landscape industry.
• Learn operations across horticulture, irrigation, construction, design, and client relations.
• Rotate through Estate Gardening, Commercial Maintenance, Irrigation, Plant Health Care, Landscape Construction, Account Management, and Design.
• Assist with installations, layout, plant care, and SHADOW account managers.
• Learn how projects move from concept to installation and how teams are scheduled and managed.
• Expect some physical days and learning across departments.

Focal Pointe's 2027 Summer Landscape Internship gives you the opportunity to explore the many sides of the professional landscape industry. You'll rotate through different areas of our business, work alongside experienced professionals, get hands-on experience, and see how everything from horticulture and irrigation to construction, design, client relationships, and business operations comes together.

This isn't an internship where you'll spend the summer doing the same thing every day.

It's an opportunity to see the industry from the ground up and start discovering where you could build a career.

Where Will You Spend Your Summer?

This internship is based in our Kansas City market. You'll primarily work alongside Focal Pointe teams in this market while also having opportunities to connect with other Focal Pointe professionals and interns throughout the summer.

Our internship is designed to give you exposure to multiple career paths within the landscape industry. Depending on your location and rotation schedule, you may experience areas such as:

• Estate Gardening and Detail Crews
• Commercial Landscape Maintenance
• Irrigation and Technical Services
• Plant Health Care
• Landscape Construction and Installation
• Account Management
• Landscape Design
• Business Operations
• A self-selected area based on your career interests

Throughout the summer, you'll have the opportunity to learn how these different areas work together to serve our clients and operate a large-scale commercial landscape company.

Toward the end of the program, you'll have the opportunity to spend additional time in an area that aligns with your interests and career goals.

Will You Actually Get to Do Things?

Yes.

This is a hands-on internship. You won't spend your summer standing on the sidelines.

Depending on your rotations, you may:

• Work alongside landscape maintenance, gardening, and construction teams
• Assist with landscape installation and field layout
• Learn about annual and perennial plant care
• Assist with irrigation installation, troubleshooting, startups, and repairs
• Learn about Plant Health Care practices and equipment
• Take site measurements and learn how they are used for estimating and bidding
• See how landscape designs move from concept to installation
• Shadow Account Managers and learn how they build and maintain client relationships
• Work alongside Operations Managers and learn how teams, schedules, and projects are managed
• Learn about the business operations that support a commercial landscape company

Some days will be physical. Some will challenge you to think differently. Some may introduce you to an area of the industry you've never experienced before.

The Details

The 2027 Summer Landscape Internship is a paid, full-time summer program expected to run from approximately May through early August.

Most work takes place Monday through Friday. Because landscaping happens outdoors and our teams serve real clients, schedules can vary depending on department, weather, projects, and operational needs. Some early mornings, longer days, overtime, or occasional travel may be part of the experience.

College internship credit may also be available depending on your school's requirements.

This position primarily operates in an outdoor environment. Interns should be prepared to stand and walk for extended periods, bend, reach, push, pull, and lift and move up to 50 pounds.
