Job summary

Maldonado Nursery & Landscaping Inc. in Houston, TX is seeking a seasoned landscape construction manager to plan, direct, and coordinate activities for assigned contracts in line with company policies and regulations.

You will lead field crews, review plans, manage budgets and schedules, ensure safety, and coordinate with contractors to deliver high-quality landscapes that meet client expectations.

Qualifications

  • 4+ years of management experience in landscape/irrigation construction.
  • Valid Texas Driver's License.
  • Ability to read blueprints.
  • Bilingual preferred.

  • Coordinate permits, utility locates, and inspections prior to project start.
  • Order materials, pre-order plants, and manage supplier relations to meet budgets.

Job description

Brief Description Plans, directs, and coordinates activities pertaining to the landscape construction, renovation, and maintenance of an assigned contract in accordance with company policies, contract documents and governmental regulations.

Responsibilities
  • Coaching, evaluating, and training staff and field workers in the performance of landscape services.
  • Conduct field training of landscape and irrigation construction personnel.
  • Supervise multiple landscape & irrigation installation projects of all sizes.
  • Inspect all field work; analyze and resolve problems.
  • Ensure that all construction services are delivered according to contract specifications, within budget and on schedule.
  • Evaluate project site conditions (surveying experience) and report to the project manager prior to commencement of work.
  • Work with the project/branch manager to track all expenses on jobs, ensuring proper entry of time, materials, and subcontractors for each.
  • Meet and exceed the expectations and requirements of external and internal customers.
  • Manage labor force to keep labor budgets on track.
  • Maintain accurate daily and weekly Foremen and Superintendent activity logs; update production tracking reports and generate other related reports as needed.
  • Dispatch labor and equipment to job sites.
  • Manage equipment utilization, storage, and maintenance on projects.
  • Evaluate employee safety data, promote safe work practices, and ensure attendance at weekly safety meetings.
  • Recommend staff changes, promotions, wage adjustments, and staffing limits to Branch/Project Manager.
  • Attend and assist with internal scheduling, pre‑construction, and production meetings.
  • Attend pre‑construction meetings with General Contractors and architects onsite before job start.
  • Communicate with contract administrator and project/branch manager on permits, utility locates, and inspections prior to execution, ensuring internal digging permits are processed and filed.
  • Confirm plants are suitable for application as per drawings and specs.
  • Evaluate projects and organize RFIs when questions require architect approval.
  • Forward information via marked‑up plan or written RFI to project manager or assistant project manager for transmission to the general contractor for approval.
  • Review all plans, specifications, and estimates, and bring material or budget issues to pre‑construction meetings.
  • Organize material orders and deliveries; load materials in the morning.
  • Familiarize with plans, details, and specs before starting work and pre‑order materials as needed, researching plants, survival guidelines, municipal codes, and irrigation.
  • Obtain purchase orders before buying anything, providing accurate estimates.
  • Ensure all subcontractors and purchase orders are maintained, managed, and aligned with each project.
  • Collect all receipts and bills of lading for delivered materials; properly identify each ticket with job name, number, and PO.
  • Source and procure materials on projects; order long‑lead items as required.
  • Schedule crews days and weeks ahead efficiently.
  • Maintain and water projects within warranty period properly.
  • Seek opportunities to beat budgets while maintaining quality.
  • Approve, code, and submit material invoices promptly.
  • Use tools and equipment efficiently to complete projects and minimize rentals.
  • Act as quality control for all job site installations and attend all punch walks.
  • Conduct an in‑house walkthrough upon job completion to assemble and finish punch‑list items for substantial completion walk‑through.
  • Communicate alterations or project changes to crews and subcontractors.
  • Submit change order information to the Branch Manager for executive approval.
  • Verify crew time entries daily.
  • Manage and approve all crews’ timesheets and vacation requests.
  • Maintain equipment/truck database and ensure routine maintenance is logged.
  • Ensure equipment and vehicle repairs are completed timely.
  • Manage crews GPS and driver safety scorecards, recommend corrective actions.
  • Organize weekly safety toolbox talks, ensuring proper PPE and safety information is presented.
  • Follow safety protocols for reporting accidents and enforce safety policies.
  • Confirm crews have returned and trucks and gates are secured.
  • Ensure all punch lists are 100% complete and project closed out.
