Southern Landscape Group, Inc. is seeking a Landscape Care Team Technician in Central Virginia. Under a team leader, you'll perform horticultural services on client properties, operating a range of equipment and applying knowledge of lighting, irrigation, and water features.

This hourly position requires a high school diploma, two years in green industry, and strong communication. You will work Monday-Friday with overtime as needed, and must lift up to 50 pounds.

Qualifications

• Requires high school diploma or GED plus two years of green industry experience.

Responsibilities

• Reviewing job notes for clear understanding of scope of work to be performed on daily basis
• Read, measure, and interpret landscape plans
• Working knowledge and understanding of pesticides used
• Mix and apply various pesticides using proper PPE and application techniques
• Perform the following landscape services: landscape bed maintenance, pruning, plant health, irrigation, water features, lighting, floral services, spring clean-ups, blowing, snow removal
• Operate small and medium duty tools and equipment to include but not limited to: hedge trimmers, backpack blowers, bed edgers, re-definers, rototiller, string trimmer, ladder, backpack sprayer, dump trailer/bed, mulching trailer, wheel loader, tape measure, plumb bob, level
• Identifies enhancement ideas to improve client property and submits to team leader
• Learns and has a working knowledge of all properties, responsibilities and knows limits of work.

POSITION OVERVIEW

A Landscape Care Team Technician is an experienced team member working under the supervision of a team leader. The primary function of a Landscape Care Team Technician is to assist the Landscape Care Team Leader in performing horticultural services on client properties. A Landscape Care Team Technician is able to operate a variety of equipment and has thorough horticultural knowledge as well as lighting, water gardens, and irrigation.

JOB FUNCTIONS:

1. Reviewing job notes for clear understanding of scope of work to be performed on daily basis
2. Read, measure, and interpret landscape plans
3. Working knowledge and understanding of pesticides used
4. Mix and apply various pesticides using proper PPE and application techniques
5. Perform the following landscape services:
   • Landscape bed maintenance: spray and pull weeds
   • Pruning: horticulturally correct tree/shrub/perennial pruning and dead heading
   • Plant health: identify, diagnose, and treat plant health issues regarding diseases and insects
   • Irrigation: minor irrigation repairs
   • Water features: care & maintenance of pumps, aquatic plants, water chemistry, and fish
   • Lighting: repair and replace low-voltage lighting
   • Floral services: annual plant identification, bed preparation, proper plant installation, layout, care and maintenance
   • Spring clean-ups: bed cleanout, bed edging, pre-emergent, plant fertilization, and mulch installation
   • Blowing: using handheld or backpack blower to blow off all hard surfaces
   • Snow removal
   • Any other tasks necessary.
6. Operates small and medium duty tools and equipment to include but not limited to: hedge trimmers, backpack blowers, bed edgers, re-definers, rototiller, string trimmer, ladder, backpack sprayer, dump trailer/bed, mulching trailer, wheel loader, tape measure, plumb bob, level
7. Identifies enhancement ideas to improve client property and submits to team leader
8. Learns and has a working knowledge of all properties, responsibilities and knows limits of work.

WORKING CONDITIONS

Time will be spent in an outdoor environment with limited ability to control noise, airborne contaminants, and temperature. Be able to lift 50 pounds regularly.

The team member is expected to work the assigned hours at Southern Landscape Group from Monday through Friday as well as weekends & overtime as dictated by seasonal needs. This is an hourly wage position with a normally expected workday of 7:00 AM until 5:00 PM.

Requirements

• A high school degree or GED is required as well as two years of documented experience in the green industry
• Must have great verbal and written communication skills
• Must be able to use Apple technology for time tracking and job management
• Must have great analytical problem solving and decision making ability
• Must have excellent customer service skills and the ability to communicate with clients and professionals
• Ability to use Google translate efficiently to communicate with Spanish speaking workers
• Assist team leader with training and coaching a team of two or more team members to help develop their skills & ensure team members receive proper training
• Maintain a clean, safe, and efficient job site and ensures truck/tools/equipment are properly maintained.
• Ensure daily tasks are completed on schedule and budget to quality standard
• Responsible for all tools being returned to the shop at the end of a workday and tagging any tools needing repairs
• Ability to drive truck & trailer combinations
• Maintain a neat and clean professional appearance
• Works as a team member throughout Southern Landscape Group with a positive attitude
• Knows and supports the company's vision, mission, and core values

CERTIFICATIONS

• Valid Virginia driver's license with insurable driving record
• VDACS Registered Tech Certification
• CPR/First Aid Certification
