Job summary

Tetra Tech is seeking a Drilling Assistant to join the Landfill Gas Drilling team in Ohio. The role supports drilling operations, assembles piping, fuses HDPE, and assists the Driller to design specifications on-site.

Responsibilities include site tasks, safety training, equipment handling, and coordination with the crew. The position requires a HS diploma, 1+ year labor experience, and compliance with health and safety regulations. Lodging and travel may be involved.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
• 1+ year of experience in decentralized business in construction, outdoor labor, mining and farming industries.
• Must be familiar with or able to become familiar with applicable environmental and health & safety regulations and regulatory requirements.
• To drive for company business, you must maintain a safe driving record as defined by Tetra Tech’s Vehicle Safety program. This offer of employment is contingent upon successful evaluation of a motor vehicle (MVR) check, if required.

Responsibilities

• Work independently without continuous supervision.
• Complete project-related paperwork neatly, timely, and accurately including timesheets, dailies, expense reports, etc.
• Understand environmental and health and safety regulations while performing construction activities in a safe and proper manner.
• Assist with the procurement of materials, equipment, and supplies for projects.
• Complete USEPA HAZWOPR, 40-hour, environmental health and safety classes, on-site training materials and annual 8-hour refresher classes.
• Perform maintenance on system components to ensure or restore proper operation and compliance.
• Operate general site vehicles and equipment, such as pickup trucks, and smaller equipment.
• Maintain, clean, and organized equipment and supplies.
• Maneuver, cut, fuse, and fit pipe.
• Conduct activities in line with internal procedures, legislation, and industry standards.
• Pursue continuous professional development and maintain a high degree of discipline knowledge and awareness.
• Work in a safe manner at all times and report all health and safety incidents and concerns.

Position Summary:

Our Landfill Gas Drilling division offers a unique work environment that specializes in a wide variety of projects where we are drilling for natural gas on landfills, installing new wells to collect the gas, fusing and welding HDPE pipe, and assemble PVC/CPVC casing. Your role will be to support the project needs, and assist other team members.

• Be punctual on all days work is assigned.
• Assist Driller and completion man on construction of new gas well to design specifications.
• $75/day per diem for meals and incidentals.
• Stay in company provided lodging.

Required Qualifications:

• High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
• 1+ year of experience in decentralized business in construction, outdoor labor, mining and farming industries.
• Must be familiar with or able to become familiar with applicable environmental and health & safety regulations and regulatory requirements.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Landfill or refuse collection experience.
• Proficient in the use of the PC, specifically with the Microsoft Office suite of products (Word, Excel, and Outlook).

Physical Requirements:

• Lift a minimum of 50 pounds on a non-consistent basis.
• Climb, bend, and stand for extended periods of time.
• Walk long distances, up and down steeply sloped landfills (1:1, 2:1, and 3:1) and outdoor terrain.
• Frequently lift or carry containers, poly pipe, carry loose materials to truck.
• Work in variable conditions including extreme (hot and cold) weather safely.
• Work around (not operate) heavy construction equipment (excavators, dozers, road trucks, etc.), survey equipment, pipe fusion equipment & techniques, compacting and materials handling equipment.

Additional Information:

• Travel for extended periods, as necessary, up to 6 weeks (80% of the year away from home). Typically, on rotation every 3-6 weeks.
• Must be available to work overtime, nights, weekends, and holidays when necessary.
• A background investigation if required. Please note that this investigation requires your consent and cooperation.
• This offer is also contingent on valid proof of completed OSHA 10 Hour Construction certificate as defined by Tetra Tech.
