Job summary

Fayette Co in Ohio is seeking a dependable Landfill Equipment Operator to safely operate heavy machinery and support waste handling operations, including backing and compacting waste and occasionally pulling trailers from the transfer building.

You will perform routine maintenance, keep accurate records, and follow safety procedures, PPE requirements, and pre-shift inspections. The outdoor role is loud and exposes you to weather, dust, and landfill odors.

Qualifications

• Proven experience operating heavy machinery such as a backhoe.
• Willingness to perform pre-shift equipment inspections and follow safety procedures.
• Ability to maintain accurate waste handling records.

Responsibilities

• Waste management: Pushing, distributing, and compacting incoming waste to maximize trailers capacity.
• Heavy equipment operation: Operate a backhoe to pack solid waste and pull trailers from the transfer building as needed.
• Maintenance: Maintain access roads and service landfill equipment.
• Safety compliance: Follow safety procedures, wear PPE, and report safety concerns.
• Attention to detail and safety awareness in daily operations.

A landfill equipment operator is responsible for safely and efficiently operating heavy machinery like a backhoe to pack solid waste within a trailer, also operate a semi to pull trailers from the transfer building and to follow regulations and safety protocols.

Waste management: Pushing, distributing, and compacting incoming waste to maximize trailers capacity.

Maintenance: Maintaining access roads within the landfill and servicing equipment.

Safety compliance: Following all safety procedures, including but not limited to wearing required personal protective equipment, performing pre-shift equipment inspections, and reporting any safety concerns.

Heavy equipment operation: Proven experience operating heavy machinery like a backhoe or tractor.

Attention to detail: Maintaining accurate records and observing operational details to ensure proper landfill management.

Safety awareness: Commitment to following safety regulations and procedures.

Work environment: Primarily outdoors, exposed to varying weather conditions. Loud noise from operating heavy machinery. Potential exposure to dust and odors associated with landfill operations.
