Job summary

EIL seeks a Landfill Engineer to join a flexible Midwest-based team and work from home. Initial duties mix office and field tasks in landfill design, operation and post-closure care, with mentoring to help you grow.

You will analyze geotechnical, hydrogeological, groundwater chemistry and landfill gas data, design and troubleshoot gas extraction and leachate systems, model water balance, log borings, and ensure regulatory reporting.

Qualifications

  • B.S. degree in civil, geotechnical, geological or mechanical engineering; M.S. a plus.
  • P.E. license or working toward it.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and ability to communicate effectively.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office; knowledge of Access and/or AutoCAD a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Office and field work on landfill design, operation and post-closure care.
  • Data analysis: geotechnical, hydrogeological, groundwater chemistry, landfill gas.
  • Design and troubleshooting of gas extraction and leachate systems.
  • Water balance modeling and logging geological borings.
  • Regulatory compliance and reporting.

Landfill Engineer

Description:

Responsibilities

Initial responsibilities are a combination of office and field work related to landfill design, operation and post-closure care. Tasks include: data analysis (geotechnical, hydrogeological, groundwater chemistry and landfill gas); design and troubleshooting of landfill gas extraction and leachate conveyance systems; water balance modeling; logging geological borings; and regulatory compliance and reporting.

As you gain experience, you’ll take on more challenging tasks and choose your career direction: technical guru, project and client manager, business manager, or a combination that fits your goals.

Location

This position is work-from-home but is based out of northern Illinois or southern Wisconsin. Your primary mentor is in South Beloit, Illinois and you’ll need to meet with coworkers and clients at project sites occasionally, mostly in northern Illinois.

Qualifications:

Our target range is new grads up to people with 10 years of related experience. Plus, we’re looking for the rare person who combines practical technical skills with self-motivation and the ability to communicate effectively.

A few other minimum requirements:

  • B.S. degree (M.S. a plus) in civil, geotechnical, geological or mechanical engineering;
  • Strong mechanical aptitude;
  • P.E. license or working toward it;
  • Fluent with Microsoft Office; knowledge of Access and/or AutoCAD a plus;
  • Able to perform occasional field work;
  • Good driving record and a valid driver’s license; and
  • US citizenship or Green Card.
