Job summary

San Joaquin County seeks a Development Services Technician to support planning and building permit processing in Stockton. You will assist the public with interpreting codes, review land use applications, issue permits, and help maintain the Land Use Information System.

You will prepare maps and diagrams for Planning Commission meetings, interpret zoning requirements, and help ensure compliance. ICC Permit Technician certification may be required within one year of appointment.

Qualifications

• One year of experience reviewing, tracking and processing building or land use permits in a public sector planning, building or related agency, OR experience interpreting planning or building-related codes, ordinances and regulations.

Responsibilities

• Interprets and explains land use requirements to applicants and the public.
• Assists in updating and maintaining the Land Use Information System; issues addresses and building permits.
• Prepares maps, overlays, diagrams and charts for Planning Commission meetings.
• Investigates zoning concerns and notifies owners of violations; follows up to ensure compliance.
