Job summary

The YMCA of the USA in Waterbury, CT is seeking a part-time Linking Academics to Life Facilitator (20 hours/week). The role supports youth development by delivering engaging curriculum and coordinating program activities with community partners.

Qualifications

  • BS in Education, Human Services, Social Work, Human Development, or related field.
  • Four years of experience working with youth in a relevant position.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills.
  • Valid driver's license with clean driving record.
  • Bilingual English/Spanish preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Create, implement, and facilitate engaging, age-appropriate curriculum aligned with program goals.
  • Deliver high-quality instruction that fosters academic, social, creative and professional growth.
  • Provide specialized instruction and experiential learning opportunities within program areas (entrepreneurship, journalism, studio arts, college readiness).
  • Develop and maintain partnerships with community organizations to enhance participant learning experiences.
  • Maintain safe, inclusive learning environments and accurate participant records; supervise and support participants.
  • Monitor attendance, engagement and outcomes; report progress to supervisors and Leadership.
  • Coordinate transportation as needed and attend trainings and agency events.

Come join our team! The Waterbury YMCA is currently seeking a part time (20 hours a week) Linking Academics to Life (LAL) Facilitator.

Job Description

This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit, charitable organization committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. The LAL Program Facilitator is responsible for program facilitation and maintaining and organizing program site, supervision of participants, implementation and assistance with program project goals.

Qualifications
  • BS in Education, Human Services, Social Work, Human Development, or related field. Supplemented with four (4) years of experience working with youth in a relevant position.
  • Strong communication skills: oral and written.
  • Good computer skills; Microsoft Office and Excel preferred.
  • A valid driver's license, insurance and clean driving record.
  • Bilingual English/Spanish preferred.
Essential Functions
  • Create, implement, and facilitate engaging, age-appropriate curriculum that aligns with program goals and incorporates relevant local, global, and current events in the fields of Journalism, Entrepreneurship, Studio Arts, and Music & Leadership.
  • Deliver high-quality program instruction and facilitation that encourages youth to grow academically, socially, creatively, and professionally while fostering autonomy and leadership.
  • Provide specialized instruction and experiential learning opportunities within the assigned program area (e.g., entrepreneurship, journalism, studio arts, college and career readiness).
  • Develop and maintain collaborative relationships with community partners, industry professionals, local organizations, businesses, artists, journalists, educational institutions, and other stakeholders to enhance participant learning experiences.
  • Ensure participants actively engage in program activities while receiving appropriate supervision, encouragement, recognition, and support in a safe, inclusive, and positive learning environment.
  • Prepare participants with the knowledge, skills, and experiences necessary for personal, academic, career, and workforce success.
  • Maintain program spaces, equipment, supplies, instructional materials, and participant records to ensure efficient program operations.
  • Monitor, document, and report participant attendance, engagement, progress, and outcomes; maintain accurate records and enter required data in a timely manner.
  • Communicate regularly with supervisors and Youth Development leadership regarding program progress, participant needs, and operational updates.
  • Ensure compliance with agency policies, safety procedures, ethical standards, and program expectations.
  • Attend required staff meetings, trainings, professional development sessions, and agency events.
  • Transport participants in agency vehicles when required, in accordance with agency transportation policies.
  • Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned in support of program and organizational goals.
