Job summary

Medical University Hospital Authority (MUHA) is seeking a compassionate Lactation Consultant PRN to join our obstetrics team in Florence. The role focuses on identifying and correcting lactation problems, leading breastfeeding classes, and advising clinicians on lactation-related issues.

The position requires 1 year of related experience, BLS certification, and certification in lactation (IBCLC preferred, must be obtained by year two).

• Experience: 1 year experience directly related to major responsibilities required
• Licensures/Certifications: BLS required, International Board Certified Lactation Consultant preferred (must be obtained prior to two year anniversary)

Responsibilities

• Identify and correct lactation problems.
• Lead breastfeeding classes for expecting mothers.
• Advise physicians and healthcare providers on lactation problems faced by patients.
• Provide staff education to meet Baby Friendly designation requirements.
• Promote breastfeeding and support breastfeeding families across Neonates, Infants, Adolescents and Adults.

Job Description

Responsible for identifying and correcting lactation problems. Responsible for leading breastfeeding classes for expecting mothers. Advises physicians and healthcare providers on lactation problems experienced by patients. Relies on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals. Performs a variety of tasks. Works under general supervision. A certain degree of creativity and latitude is required. Typically reports to a supervisor and/or manager. Provides all staff education to meet the requirements for baby friendly designation. The Lactation Consultant utilizes evidenced based knowledge to promote breastfeeding and to support breastfeeding families. The Lactation Consultant serves the following age groups on a regular basis: Neonates, Infants, Adolescents, and Adults
