Job description

Under direct supervision, performs physical, unskilled tasks associated with treatment plant operations and maintenance.

Responsibilities include:

1. Operating forklifts and other equipment.
2. Performing preventive maintenance duties such as adding oil and grease to equipment, changing air filters, and assisting with belt changes.
3. Assisting in operating, maintaining, and installing MSD maintained closures, gates, valves, etc.
4. Operating passenger cars and/or light trucks.
5. Trimming trees and bushes.
6. Loading and unloading equipment, materials, and supplies weighing 10 lbs. to 100 lbs.
7. Lifting heavy objects (45 lbs. to 100 lbs.) from the ground to an elevation of 4'8".
8. Hauling miscellaneous materials in wheelbarrows.
9. Shoveling snow in season.
10. Climbing ladders and working in confined spaces.
11. Performing painting and cleaning as needed.
12. Loading bio-solids trucks.
13. Assisting with sample collection.
14. Performing other related duties as assigned or as needed.

Qualifications include:

• Knowledge of proper use of basic hand tools.
• Ability to lift up to 100 lbs from the ground to a height of 4'8" and carry up to 100 lbs for 200 feet.
• Ability to work under adverse conditions, including inclement weather, contact with raw sewage, and irregular surfaces.
• Ability to work with maintenance/operations staff.
• Ability to climb ladders.
• Ability to be trained in first aid.
• Willingness to work various shifts and mandatory overtime.

Minimum requirements:

• High School Diploma or GED, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Must pass the CAPS test.
• Valid driver's license.
• Reliable means of contact during off-duty hours.
• Commitment to safe work and driving habits.
