Responsibilities

  • Perform strenuous manual labor on mining and heavy construction sites.
  • Operate light machinery, equipment, and hand tools safely and efficiently.
  • Operate basic hand tools such as saws, shovels, and rakes.
  • Operate basic power tools such as plate compactors and cement mixers.
  • Maintain a clean job site and secure tools and equipment daily to reduce hazards.
  • Assist other crew members on various tasks.
  • Coordinate tasks using handheld radios.
  • Follow company policies and safety procedures.
  • Identify hazardous conditions and report to supervisor.
  • Dispose of garbage according to set policies.

Overview

Department/Location: Operations / Kensington mine site

Reports to: Project Manager / Crew Foreman

Status: Full Time, Temporary

Normal Work Hours and Days: A normal work day consists of 10-12 hours, possibly longer depending on workload. Hours and start time will vary. Night shift work required as needed.

Summary

The construction laborer performs tasks involving physical labor at heavy construction projects. The position operates a variety of hand and power tools; cleans and prepares sites; digs trenches; sets braces to support excavations; erects scaffolding; cleans up rubble and debris; and removes waste materials. The position may assist other craft workers.

Essential Functions
  • Performs tasks involving strenuous manual labor in mining and heavy construction projects
  • Operates light machinery, equipment, and hand tools safely and efficiently
  • Operates basic hand tools such as saws, shovels, and rakes
  • Operates basic power tools such as plate compactors and cement mixers
  • Maintains a clean job site and secures tools and equipment daily to reduce hazards
  • Provides manual labor assistance on various tasks
  • Uses hand-held mobile radios to coordinate tasks and resources
  • Follows company and customer policies and procedures
  • Adheres to safe work practices and procedures
  • Identifies hazardous conditions on the job site
  • Performs related duties as required
  • Disposes of garbage according to set policies and procedures
  • Reports any damage immediately to supervisor

Qualifications

Education and/or Experience

  • Minimum: A valid driver license
  • 6 months of prior experience as a laborer on remote construction
  • Preferred: High School Diploma or GED
  • Three or more years of experience as a laborer on remote construction
  • MSHA certification

  • Knowledge of safe operation of basic hand and power tools
