Job summary

Messer Construction Co. is hiring for an on-site construction laborer in the Cincinnati area. The role involves general cleanup, material handling, and assisting with dewatering, formwork, and concrete placing.

You will work under supervision across diverse tasks on commercial projects. With a minimum of three years in commercial construction, you must be reliable, physically able to perform demanding tasks in varying weather, and capable of traveling within a 50‑mile radius.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Minimum three years' experience in commercial construction.
• Candidates must have reliable transportation and be willing to work within a 50 mile radius.
• Ability to work in varying weather conditions.

Responsibilities

• General and final cleanup.
• Tool cleanup and organization of power hand-tools, cords and generators.
• Dewatering and set-up of pumps and hoses.
• Move formwork, lumber, resteel and accessories manually.
• Hand excavation and backfill.
• Place vapor barrier and insulation.
• Place and tie resteel; pour concrete from truck or pump.
• Rake, screed and finish concrete surfaces; broom finish.
• Vibrate concrete; place blankets over pours.
• Strip and oil formwork; perform demolition of masonry and partitions.
• Operate demolition tools (jackhammer, air tools, sledge).
• Use cutoff saw and cutting torch; perform other supervisor-directed tasks.

What You Will Do:

• General and final cleanup


• Distribution / cleanup of power hand-tools / extension cords / generators


• Dewatering activities / set-up water pumps and hoses


• Manual moving of formwork, lumber, resteel and material / accessories


• Hand excavation and backfill


• Hand grade sub-base


• Place vapor barrier / board insulation


• Place and tie resteel


• Placing concrete from a truck, pump, bucket, buggy, conveyor, etc.


• Rake concrete / screed concrete / edge concrete / broom finish concrete


• Vibrate concrete


• Place concrete blankets


• Strip/ wreck, clean and oiling of formwork


• General / selective demolition of masonry, drywall, plaster, partitions of all types, ceilings of all types, finishes of all types


• Use of demolition tools: jack hammer, air tools, sledge hammer, etc.


• Use of cutoff saw


• Use a cutting torch


• Other tasks as directed by supervisor
