Job summary

Qualifications

• Some experience in manual labor, maintenance, and/or construction work is desired.
• Previous experience in lawn and landscaping maintenance is preferred.
• Experience operating mowers, edgers, and string trimmers is preferred.
• Experience performing cemetery and turf maintenance is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Perform general grounds maintenance, including trimming foliage, clearing brush, raking, pulling weeds, and collecting trash.
• Plant trees, flowers, and shrubs and assist with watering and soil preparation around vegetation.
• Perform lawn maintenance tasks and operate related equipment as needed.
• Conduct custodial duties in park facilities and maintain clean public areas.
• Monitor park areas, report damage or safety concerns, and assist with security.
• Set out temporary traffic control devices to maintain safe traffic flow during work.
• May operate a City vehicle in the performance of duties, outdoors in varying weather.
• Work independently or in a crew, with varying shifts including weekends.

Job description

Performs routine manual labor in the maintenance and upkeep of City parks, grounds, and related facilities. Work includes landscaping, grounds maintenance, custodial tasks, and general park support. Duties are primarily performed outdoors in varying weather conditions and may require working weekends, holidays, and varying shifts. Work may be performed independently in an assigned park area or as part of a crew under supervision.

• Performs general grounds maintenance, including trimming foliage, clearing brush, raking, pulling weeds, and collecting trash and debris.
• Plants trees, flowers, and shrubs and assists with watering and soil preparation around newly planted vegetation.
• Performs manual labor associated with seeding, hoeing, cultivating, and maintaining lawns and landscaped areas.
• Operates lawn maintenance equipment on a limited basis, including mowers, edgers, and weed trimmers.
• Performs custodial duties in park facilities and assists in maintaining clean and orderly public areas.
• Clears parks of patrons prior to closing, as assigned.
• Observes park areas and reports property damage, maintenance concerns, or suspicious activity to appropriate personnel.
• Sets out temporary traffic control devices to help maintain safe and efficient traffic flow during assigned work activities.
• May operate a City vehicle in the performance of assigned duties.
• Performs work outdoors in a variety of weather conditions.
• Works independently in assigned park areas or as part of a crew under supervision.
• Works varying schedules, which may include weekends and holidays.
• Performs other related duties as assigned.

Experience

• Some experience in manual labor, maintenance, and/or construction work is desired.
• Previous experience in lawn and landscaping maintenance is preferred.
• Experience operating mowers, edgers, and string trimmers is preferred.
• Experience performing cemetery and turf maintenance is preferred.

License/Certification

• Must possess a valid Florida driver’s license.

Physical Requirements

• Ability to regularly lift/move up to 50 lbs. and occasionally up to 100 lbs.
• Ability to climb, push, pull, bend, lift, and kneel.
• Ability to perform physical labor outdoors in adverse weather conditions.
• Must have adequate vision, hearing, and verbal communication abilities.

Work Days/Hours : Days will vary and may include weekends, no more than 25 hours/week
