Job summary

Hensel Phelps seeks a Laborer to support skilled craft workers on a construction project in Texas. This safety-sensitive role assists form carpenters, concrete operations, ironworkers/rodbusters, and masons on daily tasks.

You will prepare areas for concrete, assemble forms, operate crane buckets, and help finish surfaces, while transporting materials and maintaining site safety throughout the shift.

Qualifications

• HS diploma or GED required.
• Follow safety practices per safety program.
• Ability to read basic instructions and measurements.

Responsibilities

• Prepare areas for concrete placement by excavating, grading and setting floor slabs.
• Assemble concrete forms, lift and place prefabricated metal panels.
• Operate crane buckets to transfer concrete from the truck to the placement area.
• Muck and level poured concrete, assist in stripping forms and transport form panels.
• Assist concrete finishers with power trowels and screeds to finish surfaces.
• Support masons by handling bags of cement, lime, sand and grout, stocking blocks and bricks.
• Assist carpenters in handling, setting and stacking door frames.
• Unload, identify, distribute and store building materials, machinery and tools per project plans.
• Maintain a clean, safe work environment and secure the jobsite at end of day.

Position Overview

Laborer – responsible for providing support and assistance to skilled craft workers on the project. This safety‑sensitive position supports form carpenters, concrete operations, ironworkers/rodbusters, and masons.

Responsibilities

• Prepare areas for concrete placement by excavating, grading and setting floor slabs.
• Assemble concrete forms, lift and place prefabricated metal panels.

Physical Work Classification & Demands

• Heavy work: lifting up to 100 pounds occasionally, up to 50 pounds frequently; 20 pounds constantly.
• Walking, kneeling, sitting, crouching, reaching, stooping, peaking to read/see, speaking, pushing, pulling, lifting, standing, and typing.
• Climbing and descending ladders, stairs, scaffolding and ramps; working at heights for extended periods.
• Exposure to high/low temperatures, noise, precipitation, wind, dust and chemicals; respirator use required.
• Use of hand tools and machinery such as jackhammers, pavement breakers, wheelbarrows and brooms.

Position Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED.
• Valid driver’s license.
• Follow safety practices according to Hensel Phelps safety and health program.
• Initiative, keen attention to detail, ability to follow instructions.
• Ready to provide own safety footwear.
• Effective professional communication with co‑workers and stakeholders.
• Strong mathematical reasoning and quantitative skills.
• Reliable and punctual.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience in construction layout, blueprint reading and shop drawing interpretation.
• OSHA 10 certification.
• CPR and First Aid certification.
