Laborer (Laborer/Student Worker)

This position provides support to skilled trades and facilities maintenance workers in the Physical Plant during renovations, remodels and routine repairs. This position also functions as an escort to contractors to gain access to secure areas, assuring safety and security to patients, staff and visitors. This position does various duties and tasks assigned to the Physical Plant, under the supervision of a Physical Plant Manager. In supplying this support, we endeavor to provide a safer, more therapeutic atmosphere for clients and staff at Oregon State Hospital.

What We Are Looking For

Minimum Qualifications:

1 year of general labor experience in construction or maintenance environments.

Desired Attributes:

  • Experience in assisting skilled trades such as carpenters, electricians, plumbers, and maintenance workers with a variety of hands-on tasks.
  • Experience in performing general labor tasks, including loading/unloading materials, transporting tools or equipment, digging, mixing concrete, and moving appliances.
  • Experience in maintaining clean and organized work areas, including sweeping, vacuuming, and removing debris or spent materials.
  • Experience in monitoring and promoting job site safety, ensuring safe conditions for staff, patients, vendors, and contractors.
  • Experience in performing minor building repairs and routine maintenance, such as replacing ceiling tiles, changing lights, and installing HVAC air filters.
  • Experience in transporting materials and equipment using various methods such as hand delivery, carts, trucks, or other vehicles.
  • Experience in communicating effectively with staff, contractors, and supervisors, supporting coordination, security, and smooth workflow on job sites.
