Construction Laborer
Job Summary

The Construction Laborer performs a variety of physical tasks in support of civil and heavy construction projects. This position assists skilled tradespeople and equipment operators with site preparation, excavation, utility installation, concrete work, material handling, and general construction activities. The Construction Laborer is expected to work safely, maintain productivity, and contribute to the successful completion of projects while following company policies and safety standards.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Assist with site preparation, excavation, grading, and earthwork activities.
  • Load, unload, move, and organize construction materials, tools, and equipment.
  • Assist with the installation of underground utilities, including water, sewer, storm drainage, electrical conduit, and communication systems.
  • Support concrete crews by preparing forms, placing reinforcement, assisting with concrete placement, and performing cleanup.
  • Dig trenches and backfill excavations using hand tools and equipment as directed.
  • Operate small tools and equipment, including jackhammers, compactors, concrete saws, generators, pumps, and other construction equipment.
  • Perform demolition, cleanup, and debris removal to maintain a safe and organized jobsite.
  • Install erosion control measures, barricades, fencing, and traffic control devices as needed.
  • Assist equipment operators by spotting, signaling, and maintaining safe work zones.
  • Follow grade stakes, layout markings, and supervisor instructions during construction activities.
  • Clean and maintain tools, equipment, and work areas.
  • Perform daily housekeeping to maintain a safe and efficient jobsite.
  • Follow all OSHA, company, environmental, and project‑specific safety policies and procedures.
  • Wear and properly maintain required personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Perform other duties as assigned by supervisors.
Qualifications
  • High school diploma or GED preferred.
  • Previous construction experience is preferred but not required.
  • Experience in heavy civil, utility, roadway, concrete, or site development construction is a plus.
  • Ability to safely use hand and power tools.
  • Valid driver's license preferred.
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team.

Physical Requirements
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 75 pounds.
  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, crouch, climb, and perform repetitive physical tasks throughout the workday.
  • Ability to work in trenches, on uneven terrain, and around heavy equipment.
  • Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
  • Ability to work overtime, weekends, and travel to project sites as needed.
Working Conditions
  • Outdoor construction sites with exposure to dust, mud, noise, vibration, heavy equipment, and changing weather conditions.
  • Frequent work around excavation activities, concrete operations, underground utilities, road construction, and active construction traffic.
  • Travel to multiple project locations may be required depending on project assignments.
Preferred Certifications
  • OSHA 10‑Hour Construction Certification
  • First Aid/CPR Certification
  • Traffic Control/Flagger Certification
  • Competent Person – Excavation and Trenching (preferred)
  • Forklift or Telehandler Certification (preferred)
  • Commercial Driver's License (CDL) (preferred)
