Job summary

CITY OF PEEKSKILL seeks a physically capable worker to join the Public Works Department. The role involves hauling materials, maintaining and repairing equipment, and performing outdoor maintenance along assigned routes within the city.

Candidates will perform snow removal, sign painting, grass cutting, sewer cleaning, and related tasks; the position requires stamina and adherence to safety guidelines in all weather conditions.

Responsibilities

• Performs routine cleaning, maintenance and repair assignments.
• Loads and unloads materials, and equipment from trucks.
• Cleans and operates equipment and supplies in accordance with defined procedures.
• Rods and flushes sewers and cleans manholes and catch basins.
• Digs and refills trenches for water lines; Rakes leaves and hauls away rubbish.
• Does rough cement finishing, rakes asphalt, sets forms for asphalt, does rough grading and assists in street maintenance activities.
• Assists in the painting and erection of street signs; Assists in painting lines on highway.
• Cuts grass by hand or with tractor driven mowing machines and cuts up trees that have been felled.
• Performs snow removal duties; May perform other incidental tasks as needed.

Performs manual labor associated with the hauling of materials, carting of debris and pick up and removal of garbage or tree removal debris from resident and business sites on assigned route within the City of Peekskill; Performs preventive maintenance on assigned equipment, including routine equipment maintenance duties and makes minor mechanical repairs; Performs variety of related activities as assigned by the Department Head or supervisors including but not limited to weed-whacking, grass cutting, landscaping and tree & brush removal.ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following.
