The hospital facility is home to theKnapp Cardiac Care Center—an advanced heart disease diagnostic and treatment facility as well a modern ambulatory surgical pavilion with specialized services including women's imaging, a sleep laboratory, and bariatric surgery. Our Provisional Level 2 Trauma Center delivers comprehensive and specialized care for patients with traumatic injuries. The Stroke Center at NYU Langone Hospital—Suffolk is designated by the New York State Department of Health as a Primary Stroke Center, with expert neurologists available to provide treatment 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Additionally, NYU Langone Hospital—Suffolk has multiple outpatient sites, including an outpatient wound care center, a hemodialysis center, and various primary care and specialty offices.

Position Summary

We have an exciting opportunity to join our team as a Laboratory Technologist - Hematology - Per Diem - Clinical Labs-Hematology - Per Diem - Variable Day.

In this role, the successful candidate Under general supervision and according to established policies and procedures, performs various clinical laboratory tests in one or more sections of the Laboratory Department in order to obtain data for use in diagnosis and treatment of disease. Analyzes and interprets test results, and ensures accuracy of same. Repeat tests as necessary, especially those yielding abnormal or atypical results, and notifies appropriate personnel of such results.

• Applies a basic level of knowledge of methods and clinical relevance of tests performed in their area of responsibility.
• Performs all preventive maintenance on schedule in accordance with laboratory procedure.
• Recognizes abnormal instrument or test performance and does not release patient results until the situation is corrected.
• Performs basic troubleshooting procedures and seeks assistance when necessary.
• Monitors reagent and supply inventory and informs supervisor of needs.
• Works effectively in high-pressure situations. Does not lose composure or make mistakes when processing a high volume of work.
• Organizes work well so others can easily work with them and take over for them in their absence
• Verifies and Processes specimens in an organized and timely manner.
• Can perform phlebotomy when required with expertise.
• Follows all procedures accurately.
• Performs all test procedures accurately

Minimum Qualifications

To qualify you must have a BS in Medical Technology which includes a clinical internship or BS in a related discipline with one year supervised clinical laboratory experience.
NYS Education Department Clinical Laboratory Technologist License or Eligible
Professional accreditation preferred.
Analytical skills necessary to analyze data and perform mathematical calculations.
Basic knowledge of computer fundamentals and experience with laboratory information systems.
Technical skills necessary to operate, maintain and troubleshoot instrumentation and perform routine and complex testing.
Effectively communicates detailed data and procedures
Works effectively in high-pressure situations
Excellent organizational skills
Excellent interpersonal skills
Performs supervisory responsibilities.
