What you'll do
- Operate and maintain a variety of analytical instruments, including inert gas fusion systems, combustion analyzers, inductively coupled plasma optical emission spectrometers, powder rheometers, and differential scanning calorimeters.
- Prepare metallographic samples utilizing appropriate techniques for mounting, grinding, and polishing to facilitate microstructural examination.
- Maintain an organized and clean laboratory environment, ensuring compliance with all safety regulations and standards.
- Safely handle chemicals and hazardous materials, strictly adhering to established safety protocols and guidelines.
- Record, review, and report test results accurately and within specified timeframes.
- Follow standard operating procedures diligently and assist in the development of new testing methodologies as necessary.
- Contribute to quality assurance efforts and ensure the laboratory meets accreditation standards.
- Collaborate with team members to troubleshoot issues with testing equipment and processes, ensuring efficient laboratory operations.
- Participate in training sessions to stay updated on new testing techniques and safety practices.
- Engage in continuous improvement initiatives to enhance laboratory processes and outcomes.
- Document all procedures and results meticulously to maintain compliance with regulatory requirements.
- Assist in the preparation of technical reports and presentations for internal and external stakeholders.
Requirements
- A minimum of 1 year of experience working as a technician in a materials testing laboratory is required.
- A high school diploma or equivalent educational qualification is essential.
- Candidates must be classified as a U.S. Person due to access requirements for U.S. export-controlled information or facilities.
- Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently or as part of a team.
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail in all aspects of laboratory work.
- Effective communication skills, both written and verbal, to convey information clearly and accurately.
Nice to have
- Experience in laboratories with accreditations such as ISO 17025, A2LA, or Nadcap is a plus.
- Familiarity with metallographic sample preparation techniques and the analytical methods mentioned earlier.
- Knowledge of safe handling practices for hazardous chemicals and materials is advantageous.
- Previous involvement in quality assurance or compliance-related activities within a laboratory setting.
- Experience with data analysis software or laboratory information management systems (LIMS).
