Job summary

Raba Kistner, Inc. is seeking a detail-oriented Laboratory Technician I, II, or III to join our Consultants team in the Beaumont TX area.

The Laboratory Technician will perform sampling, processing, and testing of materials per established procedures, with proper documentation of results using ASTM/AASHTO/DOT standards. Role includes documentation of hours for billing, routine maintenance of equipment, and maintaining a safe, organized lab.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • No experience necessary for Laboratory Technician In Training.
  • Laboratory Technician I requires at least 6 months of applicable experience and at least 1 industry certification.
  • Laboratory Technician II requires at least 1 year of applicable experience and at least 3 industry certifications.
  • Laboratory Technician III requires at least 3 years of applicable experience and at least 5 industry certifications.
  • Relevant certifications from ACI, NICET, TXDOT, ICC, PTI, or other approved certifications.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units; read and understand instructions; write concise notes and memos; good oral and written communication; safety-minded.

Responsibilities

  • Perform physical/index/chemical construction material laboratory testing, as assigned (CMU, HMA, soils, aggregates).
  • Properly document hours worked and assist in client billing efforts.
  • Perform and keep documentation of routine maintenance and calibration of equipment.
  • Maintain a neat/clean/safe laboratory and work space.
  • Maintain relevant certifications to include regular review of testing methods.
  • Meet deadlines and priorities according to established procedures.
  • Demonstrate safe usage, storage, and maintenance of tools and equipment, including company vehicle.
  • Maintain effective working relationships with internal and external personnel.
  • Understand, adhere, and participate in Health & Safety and BBS Programs.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Responsibilities

Raba Kistner is seeking a detailed-oriented, dependable Laboratory Technician I, II, or III to join our Consultants team in the B eaumont TX area. The Laboratory Technician will be responsible for sampling, processing, and testing materials in accordance with established procedures and specifications, including proper documentation of testing results. These methods include American Society for Testing & Materials (ASTM), American Association of State Highway & Transportation Officials (AASHTO), Department of Transportation (DOT), US Corp of Engineers, etc. Other responsibilities include:

  • Perform physical/index/chemical construction material laboratory testing, as assigned:
    • Concrete/Concrete Masonry Unit (CMU) Testing (concrete cylinder/cmu/core prep and compressing, specialty concrete testing, etc.)
    • Hot Mix Asphalt (HMA) testing (gradations, AC content, density, etc.)
    • Soils (roadway base, select fills, subgrade, etc.), testing (moisture/density, Atterberg Limits, gradations, specialty, strength, etc.)
    • Aggregate testing (gradation, specific gravity, unit weight, etc.)
  • Properly document hours worked and assist in client billing efforts.
  • Perform and keep documentation of routine maintenance and calibration of equipment.
  • Maintain a neat/clean/safe laboratory and work space.
  • Maintain relevant certifications to also include regular review of pertinent testing methods.
  • Meet deadlines and priorities according to established procedures.
  • Demonstrate the safe usage, storage, and maintenance of all tools and equipment, including company vehicle.
  • Maintain effective working relationships with internal and external personnel.
  • Understand, adhere, and participate in the Raba Kistner Health & Safety and BBS Programs, setting a good example of our safety standards.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • Shall possess a valid driver’s license within the applicable jurisdiction and meet firm’s auto insurability requirements.
Laboratory Technician In Training
  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • No experience necessary
Laboratory Technician I
  • At least 6 months of applicable experience in the materials testing and inspection industry and possess at least 1 or more industry certification
Laboratory Technician II
  • At least 1 year of applicable experience in the materials testing and inspection industry and possess at least 3 or more industry certifications
Laboratory Technician III
  • At least 3 years of applicable experience in the materials testing and inspection industry and possess 5 or more industry certifications

Relevant industry certification from ACI, NICET, TXDOT, ICC, PTI, or other comparable industry certifications as approved by hiring manager.

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to read and understand instructions, labels, reports, etc. Good oral and written communication skills including the ability to write short correspondences, notes, letters and memos. Must be safety minded and willing to put safety first in performing all duties.

Work environment includes potential exposure to movement of heavy equipment on construction or roadway sites; potential exposure to hazardous dangerous chemicals and solvents, noise, dust, fumes, grease and oils, radiant and electrical energy, and vibration; all of which would require employee to implement and follow proper safety procedures and utilize appropriate protective equipment. Regular use of non-complex machines, tools, and equipment; must also possess the dexterity to utilize delicate and small laboratory equipment. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.

This position may require protracted or irregular hours. Flexibility to work irregular hours is necessary due to client needs.
