Job summary

University of Florida is seeking a time-limited Laboratory Support role to perform routine lab and animal care tasks. The position involves handling and monitoring rodents, collecting data, and maintaining records in a compliant lab setting.

Responsibilities include preparing reagents, assisting with histology and immunohistochemistry, and supporting ordering and organization of supplies. The role requires basic lab knowledge and strong attention to detail, with teamwork and independent work

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or a bachelor in science or equivalent.
  • Knowledge of basic laboratory and animal handling procedures and the ability to learn.
  • Attention to detail and accurate recordkeeping skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Ability to use computers for data entry and basic administrative tasks.

Responsibilities

  • Perform routine laboratory and animal care support functions in accordance with established protocols.
  • Handle, feed, monitor, and assist with anesthetizing laboratory animals (primarily rodents).
  • Assist with behavioral outcome measures and data collection.
  • Collect, prepare, and process biological samples, tissues, and physiological fluids.
  • Prepare solutions and reagents and assist with histology and immunohistochemistry procedures.
  • Operate and maintain standard laboratory equipment.
  • Follow written and verbal instructions to conduct assigned tasks.
  • Maintain accurate records, tabulate data, and enter information into electronic systems.
  • Assist with ordering supplies and general laboratory organization.
  • Support regulatory compliance activities, including IACUC documentation and laboratory safety requirements.
