Job summary

SPL is seeking a Laboratory Technician for our Reading, PA environmental lab on the 2nd shift. You will prepare samples, enter data in LIMS, and support QC and safety initiatives to ensure accurate, compliant results. Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Chemistry or related field; equivalent experience considered.
  • Hands-on lab experience from work, internships, or coursework.
  • Experience in fast-paced, high-throughput environments preferred.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare environmental samples following established methods.
  • Enter and review sample prep data in LIMS with accuracy.
  • Perform routine QC activities for sample prep processes.
  • Follow SOPs, QA/QC, safety protocols, and chain-of-custody procedures.
  • Support lab workflow and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Collaborate with team to meet throughput and turnaround goals.
  • Assist with housekeeping, glassware cleaning, and inventory.
  • Other duties as assigned.

We’re searching for a motivated Laboratory Technician to join our 2nd shift environmental laboratory team in Reading, PA.

In this role, you’ll be actively engaged in daily laboratory operations, supporting critical testing through sample preparation and accurate documentation within the Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS). You’ll work hands-on with laboratory instrumentation, contribute to quality and compliance initiatives, and help maintain a safe, efficient, and well-organized laboratory environment. This position offers the opportunity to strengthen technical expertise, collaborate with an experienced team, and directly contribute to reliable, high-quality results that support essential laboratory operations.

Please note: This position follows a 2nd shift schedule Monday - Friday from 2 PM - 10:30 PM EST with a monthly Sunday rotation.

What You’ll Do
  • Perform sample preparation of environmental samples following established laboratory methods and procedures
  • Accurately enter, review, and maintain sample preparation data within LIMS
  • Perform routine quality control activities associated with sample preparation processes
  • Follow SOPs, QA/QC standards, safety protocols, and chain-of-custody procedures
  • Support laboratory workflow, productivity, and continuous improvement initiatives
  • Collaborate with laboratory team members to meet sample throughput and turnaround time objectives
  • Assist with housekeeping, glassware cleaning, and inventory management activities
  • Perform other duties as assigned
Requirements
What We're Looking For
  • Bachelor's degree in Chemistry or a related scientific discipline required; equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered in lieu of degree
  • Previous hands-on lab experience gained through employment, internships, research projects, or academic coursework
  • Experience working in fast-paced, high-throughput environments strongly preferred
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, Outlook) and basic computer applications

Work Schedule & Travel
  • Full-time, onsite position
  • Monday-Friday, 2:00 PM-10:30 PM EST
  • Must be able to temporarily work 8 AM- 4:30 PM EST for first 90 days for training
  • Flexibility to work beyond standard hours, including evenings, holidays, and monthly Sunday rotation, as required
