Job summary

Sarah Cannon Research Institute (SCRI) is a leading oncology research organization and part of McKesson. We are seeking a Lab Technician to perform high-level lab processing for clinical trial specimens and support sponsors with PK/PD samples.

You will maintain freezer logs, prepare study supplies, and coordinate shipments, while collaborating with research nurses to ensure proper lab kits and specimen collection per the lab manual.

Qualifications

  • Vocational or technical training in laboratory process and/or phlebotomy.
  • A current BLS certification.
  • Knowledge of organization policies, procedures systems.
  • Knowledge of OSHA requirements for safe handling of blood and body fluids.
  • Experience gathering and reporting information.
  • Experience in venipuncture and blood processing.
  • The ability to multi-task in fast paced environment.
  • The ability to work effectively with staff, and other internal and external sponsor and agencies.
  • At least one year of clinical laboratory and phlebotomy or equivalent experience.

Responsibilities

  • Perform high-level medical laboratory processing procedures for specimens in clinical trials.
  • Initiate improvements, tools, processes and forms to enhance efficiency and quality in the lab.
  • Process and ship PK/PD and other samples according to sponsor instructions.
  • Be the primary processor and trainer for specified procedures.
  • Attend site initiation visit (SIV) lab portion when possible.
  • Prepare study supplies/source documents for lab samples prior to treatment.
  • Utilize EMR for source documentation and maintain logs and records.
  • Coordinate courier for sample shipments and manage dry ice supply.
  • Interface with Research nurses to ensure correct lab kits and specimen collection.

Job Description

As a Lab Technician you will perform high-level medical laboratory processing procedures for specimens received on patients enrolled in clinical trials. You will initiate improvements, tools, processes and forms to enhance the efficiency and the quality of work in the lab You will expertly process and ship pharmacokinetic/pharmacodynamic and all other samples according to instructions provided by study sponsor You will be responsible for high- level processing procedures requested by study sponsors becoming the primary processor and trainer for those procedures You will be responsible for attending the lab portion of the site initiation visit (SIV) when possible You will provide assistance in understanding a lab manual when required You will prepare study supplies/source documents necessary for obtaining lab samples prior to patient treatment You will utilize electronic medical record (EMR) for source documentation You will maintain accurate freezer sample logs You will maintain accurate records of sample acquisition and shipping. All PK samples must have source documents available in patient charts that are accurate and complete. All shipping and processing records should be maintained in the patient’s study folder You will schedule appropriate courier for sample shipments. You will ensure there is an adequate supply of dry ice available for shipments You will have the ability to respond to queries generated from study sponsor or contract lab regarding patient/sample data You will maintain laboratory equipment and workspace in all areas You will interface with Research nurses to ensure that all research patients have correct lab kits prior to patients’ visits and to ensure all necessary specimens are collected per lab manual
