Job summary

Agropur Cooperative is seeking a Laboratory Technician I to support production by analyzing samples and performing chemistry and physical tests on raw materials, in-process products and finished goods. You will document results, enter data into logs, and assist with quality control checks in a fast-paced dairy environment.

Qualifications include a High School Diploma or equivalent, with Associate’s coursework in science preferred.

  • Associate’s Degree or coursework in Food Science, Chemistry, Biology preferred.
  • Equivalent combination of education and/or experience may be considered.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Effective written and verbal communication with supervisors and coworkers.
  • Proficient with Excel, Word, Outlook; basic computer skills.

Responsibilities

  • Perform chemistry and/or physical sample preparation and testing.
  • Operate, calibrate, clean, and perform minor maintenance on equipment.
  • Analyze and report laboratory data; verify with senior technicians or leadership.
  • Enter data into log books, spreadsheets and reporting system.
  • Maintain a clean, organized workspace and restock supplies.
  • Follow TP/SOP/GMP/MSS/GLP instructions and store data accordingly.
  • Troubleshoot issues with supervision and maintain safety standards.

Job description

Job Type: RegularThe Laboratory Technician I is responsible for supporting production by analyzing a variety of samples using different test methods; performing microbiological and/or physical tests on raw material, in-process products and finished products. Daily tasks include the receipt of samples, determining methods by reviewing procedures and specifications, testing samples (reporting any abnormal reactions to Laboratory leadership), documenting, and reporting of results, and cleaning and stocking the work area. The Laboratory Technician I is also responsible for daily maintaining laboratory equipment and performing routine quality control checks. People are at the heart of everything we do. Starting Rate
  • Starting Rate: $22.59/hour
  • $1.50hr shift differential for night shift

Your role in achieving results
  • Perform chemistry and/or physical sample preparation and testing.
  • Responsible for equipment operation, calibration, cleaning and minor maintenance.
  • Analyze and report laboratory data, verifying interpretation with more senior Technicians or leadership.
  • Accurately enter all required data into log books, spreadsheets and the reporting system as appropriate.
  • Perform general lab cleanup and organization; restocking supplies as needed.
  • Follow work instructions set forth by Test Procedures (TPs), Standard Operation Procedures (SOPs), Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs) and Master Sanitation Schedules (MSS) and Good Laboratory Practices (GLP).
  • Maintain a clean work place that is free of safety hazards.
Other Duties and Responsibilities
  • Troubleshoot issues or concerns with Supervisor/Management.
  • Understand and adhere to Good Manufacturing Practices and Good Laboratory Practices.
  • Safety Protocol Stop any observed unsafe acts and obey facility safety rules and procedures.
  • Correct or report any observed safety hazards.
  • Support safety policies and programs.

  • Education Required: High School Diploma or equivalent required.
  • Associate’s Degree or some coursework in Food Science, Chemistry, Biology preferred.

(GLP, SOP, SDS, GMP, test procedures, and HACCP) Follow one- or two-step verbal instructions; read and follow written instructions; perform routine and repetitive tasks and carry out detailed but uncomplicated written or verbal instructions. Basic computer skills with Microsoft Excel, Word, Outlook and field-specific software. Demonstrate attention to detail, quality and cleanliness in work. Results driven, bottom-line oriented, strive to exceed goals, and motivate self and others to achieve positive outcomes. Demonstrate functional and technical knowledge, ability to learn new skills quickly, and achieve a high level of accomplishment. Ability to extract, analyze, and act on information with limited supervisory input. Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work effectively at all levels in a collaborative team environment. Dedication to meet the expectations and requirements of internal and external customers; acts with customers in mind.
