Job summary

PBI-Gordon Companies seeks a Laboratory Technician to support Manufacturing, Quality, and Formulation by performing routine testing, material inspections, documentation, and data analysis in our Kansas City laboratory.

You will collect and analyze data, assist with on-line start-ups, support D365 processes, and ensure compliance with SOPs, safety, and quality policies. The role requires teamwork, attention to detail, and the ability to lift up to 50 pounds.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma with related laboratory experience or Associates/BA/BS in science.
• Experience in laboratory, manufacturing, or quality preferred but not required.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Excel; familiarity with MS Outlook/Word/PowerPoint.
• Ability to follow written procedures and instructions accurately.
• Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
• Ability to work effectively in a team and communicate professionally.

Responsibilities

• Perform routine laboratory testing of raw materials, in-process samples and finished product.
• Collect, record, and analyze data in graphical form.
• Monitor line start-ups and clearances for liquid and granular production with manufacturing.
• Support formulation chemists in closing batches in D365 and inventory management.
• Catalog, label, store, and retrieve samples per retention procedures.
• Assist with processing documentation for inbound/outbound materials for manufacturing/quality labs.
• Monitor and address non-conformances during production.
• Follow SOPs, safety procedures, and quality policies; report issues.

Reports to: Analytical Lab Manager

Position Summary

The Laboratory Technician supports Manufacturing, Quality, Formulation operations by performing routine laboratory testing, material inspections, documentation, and data analysis. This role helps ensure product quality, regulatory compliance, and adherence to established safety and quality system requirements.

• Perform routine physical and analytical testing of raw materials, in-process samples and finished product, including particle size distribution, pH, emulsion stability, specific gravity in accordance with approved SOPs and test methods.
• Collect, Record & Analyze Manufacturing/Lab/Quality data in graphical form.
• Monitor and approve line start-ups and clearances for both liquid and granular production in collaboration with manufacturing.
• Support formulation chemists in closure of Manufacturing batches in D365 & assist in D365 Inventory management.
• Catalog, label, retain, store, and retrieve samples in accordance with retention and storage procedures.
• Support in processing documentation for inbound/outbound loads for raw materials for Manufacturing/Quality Lab Processes.
• Monitor and assist with correcting all observed non-conformances during production.
• Follow all applicable SOPs, work instructions, safety procedures, and quality policies; promptly report nonconformances, deviations, or safety concerns to supervision.
• Maintain good housekeeping practices and comply with environmental, health, and safety (EHS) requirements, including proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE)
• Perform other related duties assigned in support of laboratory, manufacturing, or quality operations.

Safety Responsibilities

• Report unsafe conditions, near misses, and incidents promptly.

Required Qualifications

• Education:
  • High School Diploma with experience in related laboratory workplace; or
  • Associates or BA/BS in a science degree.
• Experience:
  • Previous laboratory, manufacturing, or quality experience preferred but not required.
• Skills & Abilities:
  • Basic proficiency in Microsoft Excel (data entry, basic formulas, charts).
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Outlook, Word, and PowerPoint.
  • Competent basic math skills.
  • Ability to follow written procedures and instructions accurately.
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment and communicate professionally.
  • Ability to complete assigned tasks with limited supervision when required.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to stand and walk for extended periods during the work shift.
  • Ability to climb ladders and stairs to perform inspections.
