Job summary

SEARHC in Southeast Alaska seeks a Laboratory Assistant/Phlebotomist to support onsite daily operations at multiple labs. You will handle labeling, specimen processing, testing, and storage, ensuring compliance with CLIA and accreditation guidelines while delivering high-quality care to internal and external customers.

Ideal candidates have a HS diploma or GED; an Associate’s degree is preferred. Two years of medical-setting experience and post-hire lab training are expected.

  • Clinical competency within 3 months and every three years.

Responsibilities

  • Performs phlebotomy on all age groups and processes specimens (labeling, centrifugation, testing, storage, reference lab submission).
  • Ensures QC and QA compliance and takes corrective action as needed.
  • Maintains patient and lab records and provides coding information for visits.
  • Performs departmental inventory and administrative tasks related to lab processes.
  • Other duties as assigned; work involves potential exposure to blood and body fluids.

Job description

Pay Range:$25.00 - $30.04Responsible for onsite daily operations of moderate complexity laboratories and performs a wide range of waived and moderate complexity testing. This position is critical in meeting accreditation and regulatory requirements and helping provide high quality laboratory services to internal and external customers.

This position is needed to provide laboratory coverage at both Vintage Park and ELMC labs.

Key Essential Functions and Accountabilities of the Job

Performs phlebotomy on all age groups. Performs all the necessary steps in processing specimens which includes labeling, centrifugation, testing, storage, and sending out specimens to reference laboratory.

Assures all maintenance is performed and meets established laboratory and accreditation guidelines. Ensures QC performed when required and takes corrective action if needed. Performs daily QA review to ensure that other testing staff is meeting established laboratory and accreditation guidelines.

Performs administrative work associated with lab processes, this includes but is not limited to maintaining patient and laboratory records, providing coding with laboratory information to code visit, performs annual laboratory competency training for the nursing staff per established laboratory and accreditation guidelines if CLIA eligible.

Inventories and orders departmental supplies to facilitate uninterrupted operation of the laboratory.

Other duties as assigned.

Additional Details:

Education,

Certifications, and Licenses Required

HS Diploma or GED.

Associate’s degree in a medical field preferred.

No experience required with degree.

Clinical Competency required within 3 months of hireand every three years

Experience Required

2 years’ experience working in medical setting.

Successful completion of a 2-week, in-house laboratory training program is required post-hire for continued employment.

Knowledge of
