Job summary

Veolia North America is seeking an Environmental Laboratory Technician to perform physical, chemical, and microbiological tests using ICP, HACH QuikChem, FIA, and other lab equipment. The role requires following SOPs, handling reagents, and maintaining instruments.

A strong math and data-entry capability is essential, with a High School diploma and an Associate’s degree in science required; Bachelor’s degree preferred.

Qualifications

  • Must have ability to work on computer, use basic Office & Google tools (Excel, Access, Word), instrument software, LIMS and perform basic math skills.
  • Associate's Degree in Science required; Bachelor's Degree preferred.
  • High School Diploma/GED is required.

Responsibilities

  • Performs physical & chemical, bacteriological, microscopic tests in environmental laboratory operations.
  • Operates ICP, HACH QuikChem & FIA Lab Instrument and other specialized lab equipment.
  • Understands and follows SOPs for laboratory analysis and reagent preparation.
  • Maintains equipment and reports findings as required.

Job Description

Primary Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Performs physical & chemical, bacteriological, microscopic, and other tests or functions in environmental laboratory operations.
  • Must operate Inductively Coupled Argon Plasma (ICP), Flow Injection Auto-Analyzer (HACH QuikChem & FIA Lab Instrument) and other specialized laboratory equipment (ex. pH meter, Turbidity meter, Colorimeter, Bench Conductivity Analyzer, Bench Ammonia Analyzer, or alternate analytical instruments).
  • Must be able to understand, follow, and carry-out Standard Operating Procedures for laboratory analysis, including preparation of reagents, standards, media, and chemicals utilized in analysis.
  • Must have knowledge of analytical chemistry, understand the concept of microbiological testing, and understand other concepts applicable to laboratory practices.
  • Must have knowledge and ability to handle strong acids and bases, such as concentrated Sulfuric Acid, Nitric Acid, Sodium Hydroxide, etc.
  • Must operate the wet and dry heat sterilizer and automatic laboratory glassware washing machine, when required.
  • Answers telephone, completes calls and relays information, as necessary.
  • Assists employees of a higher classification, as assigned.
  • Performs other similar or less skilled work, as assigned.
  • Operates usual office machines.
Qualifications

Education/Experience/Background:

  • High School Diploma/GED is required.
  • Associate's Degree in Science (Chemistry, Biology, Environmental Science) required; Bachelor's Degree is preferred.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

  • Must have ability to work on computer, use basic Office & Google tools (ex. Excel, Access, Word), instrument software, Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS) and perform basic math skills.

Required Certification/Licenses/Training:

  • Must possess a valid Motor Vehicle License.

Physical Requirements:

  • Must have manual dexterity to work with small bottles and small buttons.
  • Must possess audio and visual acuity.
  • Must be able to smell gasses and/or odors.
Additional Information

Pay Rate:$45.59 per hour.
