Job Summary: This full‑time, direct placement position involves Laboratory Technicians performing diagnostic tests essential for disease detection, diagnosis, and treatment. Responsibilities include collecting and analyzing biological samples—blood, urine, tissue—using various laboratory techniques and equipment. Accuracy and timeliness directly impact patient care. Additionally, technicians maintain equipment, ensure quality and reliability of results, and adhere to safety and regulatory standards.
Key Responsibilities
Sample Collection and Processing
- Collect, label, and process biological samples following proper procedures to ensure integrity.
- Prepare specimens for analysis, including centrifugation, separation, and dilution.
- Handle and store samples with care to prevent contamination or degradation.
Laboratory Testing and Analysis
- Perform routine and specialized laboratory tests such as blood counts, chemical analyses, and microbiological tests.
- Operate and maintain laboratory equipment (analyzers, microscopes, spectrophotometers) and ensure accurate calibration.
- Analyze test results and report findings to supervisors or ordering physicians promptly.
- Collaborate with the team to troubleshoot and resolve testing or equipment issues.
Quality Control and Assurance
- Implement quality control procedures to guarantee accuracy, precision, and reliability.
- Participate in proficiency testing, calibration, and review of results.
- Document and report deviations or quality control issues to the supervisor.
Documentation and Record Keeping
- Accurately document procedures, results, and observations in the laboratory information system or electronic health record.
- Maintain detailed records of specimen handling, equipment maintenance, and quality control activities per regulatory requirements.
- Ensure confidentiality and security of patient information.
Safety and Compliance
- Follow safety protocols and infection control guidelines to minimize exposure risks.
- Dispose of biohazardous waste and sharps per regulatory standards.
- Stay compliant with federal, state, local regulations including OSHA, CLIA, and CAP.
Equipment Maintenance and Troubleshooting
- Perform routine maintenance and calibration of equipment.
- Troubleshoot malfunctions and coordinate repairs.
- Monitor inventory of reagents, supplies, and equipment, reordering as needed.
Professional Development and Collaboration
- Participate in continuing education and professional development.
- Collaborate with laboratory staff, healthcare providers, and other departments for efficient operations.
- Provide guidance and mentorship to newer laboratory personnel.
Requirements
Education
- Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Medical Laboratory Technology, Clinical Laboratory Science, or related field from an accredited program.
- Completion of a clinical laboratory training program preferred.
Licensure/Certification
- Certification as a Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) by ASCP or AMT preferred.
Experience
- Previous experience in a clinical laboratory setting preferred; new graduates with relevant training encouraged.
