Job summary

SSR Mining Inc. is seeking a Laboratory Technician at the Cripple Creek, Colorado mine to prepare and analyze mineral samples, including ore, rock, and soil. You will support operations by delivering accurate gold content data and adhering to SOPs and QA/QC protocols.

You will operate and maintain Rocklabs, ICP-OES, XRF, furnaces and other lab equipment, while ensuring safety and cleanliness. This role requires lifting up to 50 lbs and willingness to work a 12-hour rotational dayshift.

Qualifications

  • Knowledge of laboratory environment and sample preparation techniques preferred, but not mandatory.
  • Must be able to multitask and prioritize in a fast-paced lab environment.
  • Ability to stand for long periods and lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Attention to detail and strong organizational skills.
  • Basic computer skills (Excel, LIMS) are an asset.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare and process samples for fire assay and wet chemistry analysis.
  • Conduct assays using fire assay, gravimetric, and ICP-OES techniques.
  • Operate and maintain laboratory equipment.
  • Analyze and record test results with QA/QC compliance.
  • Report anomalies to Lab Supervisor and calibrate instruments.
  • Follow safety, environmental and health regulations.

Job Description:

The Laboratory Technician is responsible for preparing and analyzing mineral samples, including ore, rock, soil, and process solutions, to determine gold content and support operational decisions at the gold mine. The technician follows standard operating procedures and quality control protocols to ensure accurate and timely results.

Day to Day:
  • Prepare and process samples (crushing, pulverizing, splitting) for fire assay and wet chemistry analysis.

  • Conduct assays using fire assay and shake leach techniques using gravimetric and ICP-OES finish.

  • Operate and maintain laboratory equipment (Rocklabs Crushers, Mills, Leco CS844, ICP-OES, Terraspec, XRF, furnaces, balances, digestion equipment, etc.).

  • Analyze and record test results, ensuring accuracy and adherence to strict QA/QC procedures.

  • Report anomalies, inconsistencies, or non-conformances to the Lab Supervisor.

  • Calibrate instruments and perform routine maintenance to ensure operational readiness.

  • Follow and enforce strict safety, environmental, and health regulations.

  • Maintain cleanliness and organization in the laboratory.

  • Work collaboratively with other lab technicians and mine site departments.

  • Exposure to high heat (from furnaces), dust, and chemicals.

  • Must wear appropriate PPE and adhere to mine safety protocols.

  • Forklift operation experience or willingness to be trained in forklift operation.

Working Conditions & Location:
  • Position based in the United States at the Cripple Creek & Victor Mine, located in Teller County Colorado.

  • Willingness to work a 12-hour rotational dayshift schedule which includes weekends and holidays.

  • Must be able to work at high altitude.
