Luminis Health, Inc. seeks a Laboratory Technical Specialist in Lanham, MD to oversee technical and quality components in Core Laboratory. You will collaborate with leadership to ensure procedures, training, and regulatory standards are met.

This non-exempt role requires 2 years’ acute care experience and ASCP certifications, with responsibilities spanning procedural development, quality control, and resource management.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with ASCP certification requirements fulfilled.

Title: Laboratory Technical Specialist

Position Objective:

Ensures the technical, regulatory, and quality components for the assigned section of the Laboratory (in conjunction with the Manager). Ensures that all work is organized and handled in accordance with departmental protocols and serves as a resource to staff.

Essential Job Duties:

1. Creates a work environment that positively promotes process improvement. Explores opportunities to add value to job (innovative ideas) to benefit the organization and taking ownership of the outcome. Proactively finds other work-related tasks during low census.
2. Researches, develops and modifies procedures, performs technical review and monitoring of existing procedures. Creates standard operating procedures and associated forms. Maintains the management of multiple projects and ensures goals and timelines are met.
3. Serves as the primary point of contact for Quality Control (QC) for the assigned area including monitoring, analyzing data, recommending solutions and implementing actions. Serves as a technical consultant and resource. Actively participates in the laboratory quality plan/program (ex. investigative reports, notification of delays, etc.).
4. Provides technical expertise needed to establish compliance with any of the regulatory/accreditation agencies requirements related to testing, training and education, competency evaluation, proficiency testing, validation, and performance improvement. Participates in accrediting agency surveys.
5. Performs tests that require complex network of steps and variables, independent judgment, and interpretation while working the bench in any area of the department.
6. Anticipates and prevents problems independently by taking corrective actions before crises occur. Takes appropriate steps to resolve. Recognizes non-standard situations, notifies supervisor and, if applicable, documents all corrective actions taken when test systems or processes deviate from the laboratory’s established protocols.
7. Participates in department-specific improvement plans. Recognizes and responds to opportunities to improve the quality and efficiency of service.
8. Assists in establishing workload priorities in order to ensure maximum workflow efficiency.
9. Participates in the evaluation of employees during training and performance reviews. Coordinates and participates in the training of new employees in assigned areas as well as provides educational opportunities for all staff.
10. Maintains laboratory supplies inventory by checking stock to determine inventory level; anticipating needed supplies; placing and expediting orders for supplies; verifying receipt of supplies. Conserves laboratory resources by using equipment and supplies as needed to accomplish job results.

Educational/Experience Requirements:

Required Minimum Education:

Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university with course work sufficient to meet the requirements of the American Society of Clinical Pathology (ASCP) for certification as a Medical Laboratory Scientist, Medical Technologist, Specialist, or HEW (MT).

Required Minimum Experience

• Two years of experience working in an acute care facility as a Medical Laboratory Scientist, preferred.

Required License/Certifications:

• MLS(ASCP), MT(ASCP), categorical or specialist (ASCP), MT(HEW), or MT(AMT)

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:

• Ability to work cooperatively with all types of personalities both inside and outside the organization
