Job summary

Clinical Reference Laboratory in Lenexa, KS is seeking a Laboratory Assistant to support Hair Lab operations. You will wash and prepare hair samples, organize and track specimens, maintain instruments, and assist with general lab duties to ensure smooth workflow.

The role requires precise attention to detail, ability to follow procedures, and good communication with team. Overtime on demand and a focus on safety align with SOPs and OSHA requirements.

Qualifications

  • Associate degree in clinical laboratory or related science, or equivalent experience.
  • High school diploma plus 6 months laboratory experience, or an associate degree in a relevant field.

Responsibilities

  • Wash and prepare hair samples according to procedures.
  • Sort and organize incoming and processed hair samples.
  • Maintain labeling and chain of custody for samples.
  • Perform daily, weekly, and monthly instrument maintenance.
  • Troubleshoot basic instrument issues and report to leadership.
  • Prepare materials and supplies for testing and maintain inventory.

Job description

General Statement of Responsibility

Perform routine laboratory support tasks including washing of hair samples, sample handling and organization, instrument maintenance, and general laboratory assistant duties to support Hair Lab operations.

Essential Functions
  • Wash and prepare hair samples according to established procedures.
  • Sort, organize, and store incoming and processed hair samples in accordance with laboratory protocols.
  • Maintain accurate tracking and labeling of samples to ensure proper identification and chain of custody.
  • Perform daily, weekly, and monthly maintenance on laboratory instruments and equipment.
  • Assist with basic troubleshooting and report instrument or process issues to leadership.
  • Support laboratory workflow by preparing materials and supplies needed for testing.
  • Assist in monitoring and maintaining inventory of laboratory supplies.
  • Perform general laboratory aide duties, including cleaning work areas and washing laboratory glassware or tools as needed.
  • Unpack, stock, and organize laboratory supplies and reagents.
  • Comply with all company, departmental, and regulatory SOPs, including safety and OSHA requirements.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment.
  • Communicate effectively with team members and leadership regarding workflow or issues.
  • Maintain confidentiality of all company and client information.

Perform other duties as assigned.

Job Qualifications
  • Education: Associate’s degree in clinical laboratory, chemical, biological science or equivalent experience.
  • Experience: Highschool diploma and 6 months of pertinent laboratory experience or an Associates degree in a relevant scientific field.
