Job summary

UnityPoint Health in Des Moines is seeking a Laboratory Support Technician (LST). You will process specimens for testing, verify acceptability, and enter patient/test data into the system, serving in the lab's main communications center.

You will monitor test requests, respond to information requests from customers, and contribute to patient care by accurate, timely specimen processing and information dispersal within and outside the laboratory.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Phlebotomy experience required.
• Training as a unit clerk, medical assistant, or medical secretary is preferred.
• Coursework in biology and/or chemistry is considered.
• Must be able to read, write, and speak fluent English.

Responsibilities

• Processes laboratory specimens for testing and evaluates specimen acceptability.
• Enters patient and test information into the computer and responds to information requests from customers.
• Monitors test requests in the order/entry system and supports the laboratory's communications center.
• Contributes to patient care by accurate and timely processing of specimens and dispersing information inside and outside the Laboratory.
