Job summary

Lifepoint Health’s Conemaugh Meyersdale Medical Center is seeking a Laboratory Supervisor to lead our diagnostic team in a full-time capacity. You will oversee daily laboratory operations, ensure quality controls, and support timely patient care in a busy hospital setting.

The role requires 6 AM–6 PM or 6 PM–6 AM shifts with weekend and holiday availability, and collaboration with the Laboratory Manager to maintain accreditation-ready documentation and staff competency.

Qualifications

• Bachelor degree in Medical Laboratory Science or related field with NAACLS approved program.
• 3 years experience as a Medical Laboratory Technician (ASCP) or Medical Laboratory Scientist (ASCP) in a hospital laboratory.
• Certification by ASCP/NCA/AMT/AAB or must obtain within 12 months of hire.
• BLS/CPR certification within 6 months of employment.

Responsibilities

• Maintains professional skills and provides appropriate care to patients of all ages.
• Ensures competency of employees in assigned section and maintains updated training records.
• Manages daily work schedules to maximize production and adjust staffing as needed.
• Completes and approves documentation of hours in Kronos.
• Oversees QC/QA/PT and calibrations to ensure valid test results.
• Collaborates with Laboratory Manager on policy and procedure issues.
• Troubleshoots instrument, equipment, or PC failures and coordinates resolutions.
• Maintains documentation required by accrediting agencies.
• Delivers training for new employees and evaluates new procedures or equipment.
• Writes or reviews procedures as directed by the section Manager.
• Manages inventory and ordering of laboratory supplies.

How you'll contribute

A Laboratory Supervisor who excels in this role:

• Maintains professional skills and provides appropriate care to patients of all ages (neonates, infants, children, adolescents, adults and geriatrics).
• Maintains personal competency on all equipment and procedures and assures competencies of employees in assigned section are up-to-date and complete according to Laboratory Competency Policy.
• Assists with the daily work schedules to assure maximum production from assigned employees and evaluates daily workflow and makes adjustments in staffing as necessary.
• Completes and approves proper documentation of employees' hours / time in Kronos.
• Assures the quality control procedures, instrument/equipment evaluation, and maintenance are carried out on schedule and properly documented in section as required by accrediting agencies.
• Ensures all QC, QA, PT, and calibrations are performed accurately and within specified time frames to assure all test results are valid prior to reporting.
• Collaborates with the Laboratory Manager on all policy and procedure issues and immediately notifies Manager of any issues regarding employees, procedures, or equipment.
• Troubleshoots instrument, equipment, or PC failure and facilitates resolution of problem.
• Maintains all documentation requirements of accrediting agencies.
• Facilities training of new employees in accordance with Laboratory Practice.
• Facilitates evaluation of new or modified test procedures or equipment, as directed by Manager.
• Writes or reviews procedures as directed by section Manager.
• Takes care of inventory and ordering of laboratory supplies.

What we're looking for

Applicants should have a Bachelor degree in Medical Laboratory Scientist or chemical, physical, or biological science and graduate of an NAACLS approved laboratory training program as applicable to the position. Additional requirements include:

• 3 years experience as a Medical Laboratory Technician (ASCP) or Medical Laboratory Scientist (ACSP) cm in a hospital Laboratory setting.
• Must be registered as a Medical Laboratory Technician or Medical Laboratory Scientist by the American Society for Clinical Pathologists, NCA, AMT or AAB. If not MLS (ASCP) certified upon hire, certification is required within one year of hire date.
• BLS/CPR within 6 months of employment.
