Job summary

Lam Research is seeking a Laboratory Service Engineer to join our team in the California area. The role focuses on hands-on maintenance, troubleshooting, calibration, and upgrading of state-of-the-art etch and deposition equipment in an applications lab.

You will partner with process development, hardware, and software engineering teams to support demonstrations and equipment operations, including installation and documentation of prototype systems.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in a technical field with 2+ years of experience; or an advanced degree without experience; or Associates degree in a technical field or equivalent military training with 4+ years of relevant experience.
• Graduate eligible role.

Responsibilities

• Operate in an R&D environment performing preventative and corrective maintenance, troubleshooting, upgrades, and calibrations on equipment.
• Diagnose and repair mechanical, electromechanical, electronic, and vacuum equipment.
• Ensure safe handling of hazardous gas and liquid materials using required PPE.
• Partner with cross-functional teams to support R&D activities, customer demos, and equipment operations.
• Install and provide support for prototype equipment, developing procedures and documentation.
• Maintain alignment on priorities across tasks with clear and proactive communication.

The impact you’ll make

As a Laboratory Service Engineer at Lam, you're a pivotal force in maintaining and upgrading equipment in our applications lab. It's not the typical lab; you'll be hands-on with state-of-the-art equipment performing maintenance, troubleshooting, and calibration. You'll support innovative equipment providing installation and documentation, making you an integral part of our technology’s success.

What You’ll Do

• Install and provide support for prototype equipment, developing procedures and documentation.
• Maintain alignment on priorities across tasks that vary from highly dynamic to routine, with clear and proactive communication.

Who We’re Looking For

• Bachelor’s degree in a technical field with 2+ years of experience; or an advanced degree without experience; or Associates degree in a technical field or equivalent military training with 4+ years of relevant experience; or equivalent work experience.
• This is a graduate eligible role.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience troubleshooting electrical sytems, electro-mechanical, fluidic systems, and vacuum systems.
• Proficient in the use of a variety of hand tools and electronic test equipment for maintenance, repair, and assembly tasks.
• Capable of working in a cleanroom environment, wearing personal protective equipment (PPE), or a cleanroom suit.
• Semiconductor industry experience or understanding of Lam products is a plus.

Lam offers a variety of work location models based on the needs of each role. Our hybrid roles combine the benefits of on-site collaboration with colleagues and the flexibility to work remotely and fall into two categories - On-site Flex and Virtual Flex. 'On-site Flex' you'll work 3+ days per week on-site at a Lam or customer/supplier location, with the opportunity to work remotely for the balance of the week. 'Virtual Flex' you'll work 1-2 days per week on-site at a Lam or customer/supplier location, and remotely the rest of the time.

Salary

CA San Francisco Bay Area Salary Range for this position: $27.88 - $59.62.

The above salary range for this position is relevant to applicants that reside or work onsite in the California, San Francisco Bay Area only. Salary offers will depend on factors that include the location you work from, your level, education, training, specific skills, years of experience and comparison to other employees already in this role. Actual salary may vary from salary offered due to numerous factors including but not limited to unpaid time off, unpaid leave, company mandated shutdown, and other relevant factors.
