Job summary

Thermo Fisher Scientific is seeking a dedicated supervisor in California to lead a small, on-site lab services team dedicated to meeting contractual obligations. You will oversee daily workflows, coordinate procurement and stockroom duties, and act as the primary liaison with customers across site locations.

Unity Lab Services provides a single source for integrated lab service, support, and supply management. Our customized service offerings and world-class service experts have the flexibility and experience to uniquely address our customer’s laboratory's business needs.

What will you do?

This position directs the daily workflow for a small team under the direction of the site lead and/or supervisor, enabling the team to consistently deliver high levels of customer service in support of our contractual obligations. May oversee service offerings including but not limited to: order/stockroom/dock management, procurement, material handling, and chemical tracking.

• Effectively lead a diverse cross-functional team of on-site lab specialists. Responsible for complete employee lifecycle management: new hire selection, identification of training needs and solutions, coordinating development training, and employee performance evaluations.

• Deliver on committed contractual scope of work. Assist with tracking business metrics.

• Act as liaison between customer and Thermo Fisher Scientific; Coordinate onsite vendor escorting and customer visits as the site subject-matter expert, and act as a resource to identify savings and opportunities.

• Implement SOPs, conduct site audits, and assist with completion of annual physical inventory.

• Drive process improvement culture by supporting Practical Process Improvement (PPI) initiatives.

• Represent Thermo Fisher Scientific at all times throughout customer locations, professionally and positively.

• Be involved with and support safety programs such as hazard identification, conduct inspections and incident reporting/investigations as required.

• May perform other responsibilities as assigned by management

How will you get here?

Education

High school diploma or equivalent required.

Associate degree in a related field preferred, or a combination of education and experience that demonstrates the required skills.

Experience

• 3 years of progressive experience in inventory management, materials management, laboratory operations, scientific services, supply chain, logistics, or related operational environments.
• Preferred Fields of Study: Biology, Chemistry, or related scientific field
• Experience managing small teams and supporting staff development
• Strong knowledge of GxP requirements and laboratory safety protocols
• Proficiency in inventory management systems and Microsoft Office suite
• Excellent communication and customer service skills
• Ability to write and maintain SOPs and work instructions
• Experience with chemical handling, media preparation, and lab equipment
• Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities
• Physical ability to lift/push/pull 30-50 lbs and stand/walk for extended periods
• Will ingness to wear required PPE including lab coats, safety glasses, etc.
• Ability to work in environments with chemical allergens and varied temperatures
• Ability to work flexible hours as needed
• Valid driver's license with clean driving record

• Demonstrates computer proficiency and possesses intermediate skills in Microsoft Office suite of software.
• Possesses strong analytical abilities to problem solve, make timely decisions, re-balance staff workloads, and coordinate multiple overlapping priorities, while functioning in a fast-paced work environment

Physical Requirements / Work Environment

• Requires the ability to lift, push, and pull 30-40 pounds consistently; lift 50 pounds occasionally, including operation and use of pushcarts, pallet jacks, forklifts, etc.
• Regularly required to stand or walk for prolonged periods.
• Work areas may include spaces where chemical-based allergens are in use (penicillin, tetracycline, etc.). Depending on the area of the building, personal protective equipment may be required.
• Ability to work overtime, as needed.

Compensation and Benefits

The hourly pay range estimated for this position based in California is $30.00–$33.75.
